OECATORTEAM j IS FAVORITE — Yellow .Jackets Are Picked to Win Sectional With Ease The Decatur Yellow Jackets are' top heavy favorites to win the sectional tourney which will be heel at the Decatur high school gymnaslum Friday and Saturday of this week. The Yellow Jackets have had their most successful season, in several years and are picked by many fans as possible regional winners at Fort Wayne next week. Decatur has lost only two games this season, to Bluffton an I Au-! burn, Bluffton has been defeated twice by the Yellow Jackets sine--I that time and Auburn has twi-e lost to Decatur before their victory] in the Auburn invitational tourney. The Yellow Jackets have met I only two of the Adams county ; teams this season. Decatur defeated Berne, 21 to 11. and Jefferson] township, 45 to 14. both games played early in the season. Decatur's toughest opposition is ] expected torn the Kirkland Kangaroos and the Berne Bears. Ac- ; c ording to the schedule, if no upsets occur. Decatur and Kirkland ; will meet in the semi-final round at .3 p. m. Saturday and the Yellow Jackets will play Berne in the final game Saturday night. These Adams county teams have had a rather troublesome habit of upsetting the Yellow Jackets in past tourneys here and will undoubtedly cause Decatur plenty of trouble in the tourney. The Berne Beats won the last sectional held here two years ago after defeating Decatur in the first round. Kirkland won the tourney three years ago after Hartford township had eliminated Decatur. According to season records of the nine teams entered, the tourney should result as follows: Monroe to beat Monmouth. Geneva to eliminate Pleasant Mills on Friday night. Saturday morning: Berne I to beat Hartford, Kirkland to defeat Jefferson and Decatur to elim‘■cate Monroe. Saturday afternoon: Berne should dispose of Geneva and Decatur down Kirkland with Decatur defeating Berne in the ] final game. Remember, this is just ] the writer's guess and a fan’sguess is just as good as one made by anybody else. (By Pete Reynolds) Ninety players and nine coaches | in Adams county are working their] heads off this week to get their teams in the best possible condition for the sectional tourney which will be held in Decatur, Friday and Saturday. -—oOo — Ail the dope favors the Decatur Yellow Jackets to win the tourney but dope has a habit of getting spilled in this neck of the woods. Basketbawl's opinion of the outcome of the tourney will be found in another column of the Democrat today, if you don't ag.ee with my predictions, shoot in your contributions and maybe we'll have) some fun. —oOo— Tomorrow Basketbawl will start a feature article which will run the rest of the week, pretenting the season recoi d and other interesting information regarding all teams which are entered in the local sectional. —oOo — We have already had one contribution which has the result of the tourney all doped out, including the scores of all games. Here it is: “First round: Monroe to beat Monmouth five points; Kirkland to defeat Jefferson 10 points; Geneva to down Pleasant Mills five points and Berne to eliminate Hartford I township three points. ‘ Second round: Decatur to de- ] feat Monroe 15 points "Semi-finals: Decatur to defeat Kirkland ten points; Berne to beat Geneva ten points. “Finals: Decatur to annihilate Betne 20 points. “A Yellow Jacket Fan.” Basketbawls has also received an interesting contrib which gives the result of inter-county games between teams of Adams and Wells counties. Will try to get this letter to basketball fans tomorrow. ——oOo — The Fort Wayne Hoosiers won the second Jta.f championship ofj
