DASKSMWL I DgJSg -1 rOfci — (By Pete Reynolds) Well, th- Yellow Jackets didn’t win the Auburn blind tourney, but they did BEAT BLUFFTON! — 000— Revenge certainly Is sweet. Your columnist certainly did have a ‘nice’ time at Bluffton over Sunday. Strange, but the Blufftcnites didn’t seem nearly so enthusiastic as they did just one short week ago. Now al! we want is more of the same from the Yellow Jackets on F( bruary 6 Another victory from
ths Tigers surely would fast. ’ mighty fine to us. 1 —oOo—awfully sorry friend Bnuk wasn't with us Saturday night at Auburn. ' Would have enjoyed his presence ’ just as h" seemed to enjoy min ’ on January 9. 1 —oOo— Several fans asked us last week why call the Auburn tourney ‘bind.’ Since Saturday night, some of these same fans have declared they understood ' tne reason for the name after I seeing the officiating. How! I How! —oOo— It isn't the geneial custom of ’ this columnist to ride the officials, but the two boys at Auburn certainly had a bad night Saturday. From reports heard from fans of all schools, Saturday after-noon was an even worse exhibition. Sorry to hear that, as we have seen both of these men do very 1 efficient work. This Williams, Zeke Young's big freshman center, certainly was poison Saturday. Scored 'only' 16 points against Decatur in the after noon session and then came back with 15 points against Kendallville [ in the final game. —oOo — No foolin’, our Yellow Jacket: are right in the midst of a terrible ' slump. They didn't look any too tough against Bluffton Saturday, but of course they didn't have to r be so good then. What we hope is that the Yellow Jackets snap out of it this week and give the Central Tigers a good whipping Friday night at Fort Wayne. , —oOo — Murray Mendenhall's Minstrels » astounded basketball followers, not I only in this section, blit all over the I state, by giving the Huntington I Vikings. .. severe trouncing Friday I night. k —oOo—- | ■ et, these same beys turned right I around Saturday night and had a terrible time nosing out Columbia City. And on the Central homefloor, at that. —oOo— Mendy certainly picked out an easy schedule for his Minstrels this week. Wednesday night, South Side; Friday, Decatur, and Saturday, Murray takes his boys to Bluff i ton. -—oOo— Central has not been consistent this season, but when those Tigers are right, they are plenty tough. Well, well, his hjghness, A. L. Trester has awarded Decatur a sec tional tourney this year. Decatur did not hold a tourney last year, [supposedly because of low gate receipts, but it’s back again this [year. We hope the gym is packed jto the rafters at every session, ■ —oOo — Friend Tip Offs, from Berne, will get his wish of having De> catur in the same tourney with his BeiHrs this year, after all.

TWO SCHOOLS TIED FOR LEAS 1 (By United Press) The 1931 Big Ten Basketball rues entered the second quarter today with Northwestern and Chicago ti-d forth- lead. Fifteen of the season’s 6u scheduled games have been played with the Wildcats and Maroons thv only teams undefeated. The q--' -**-ts g-nerany appear better balanced than at any time in recent years and coaches are predicting that any team which is able to win nine of its 12 contests will earn at least a tie for honors. Illinois, with four consecutive defeats, is counted out of the title chase, but all of the other teams still have an opportunity to win. 1 Northwestern and Ohio State I have been outstanding to date andi the Wildcats continue in the favorite role, but there is a strong | probability that games this week will change the outlook. North-1
I western plays Michigan tonight and the Wolverine have hopes of 'versing the five point defeat sustained in a previous game at North I west-rn. Ohio is idle tonight, but I will invade Northwestern Salui , day. 1 Chicago has shown the grates’, improvement over last year ui any team in the league, hut the Via roolis championship qualifications ’ are unproved. Chicago s vietorie ; over Indiana and Minnesota were st cored by the margin of a single., point and while one-point victories count as much as any others in thvictory column they leave doubt as to the superiority of the winners. The Maroons will receive their next test Saturday when they entertain Michigan. Two of Saturday's games wer-i decided by one-point margins, Chicago nosing out Minnesota, 32 to 31, and Indiana defeating Illinois. 35 to 34.
