Like the reply of .Mose i down in Georgia, when asked by i the colonel if he thought it would ' rain—" Wall it always has.’’ They say that sixty-one men run j this country and the list Includes [ Rockefeller, Morgan, Baker and all I the others. Well, all we got to; say is they have been doing a poo" job of it lately. Peace on earth, good will toward men—it’s that season of the year and its good to think of that age old line. Perhaps congress will soften if the members think a little that way. It might be well to ascertain how much the world court treaty will £f>st before we sign any contracts. This is a period of saving every where possible and there might be a chance. Christmas comes but once a year. Make it a happy occasion. There Ts' no reason under the sun why you should not do so here in Ad- j ams ci unty w here we are so much better off than in most places. • —I'W Yottr dcllars go farther this year than for some time past and especially so if you spend them with the Decatur merchants. G( od cheer* week will start the ’l7lll and Governor ‘ Leslie is urging that you employ some one and pay them a wage that will make th m have a happy Christmas. Perhaps there is some thing you want done and that week will be an excellent time to do it. . The supreme court- has overruled Judge Hamilton of the Wells circuit court and decided that the on ■ hundred per cent assessments against the stock of the Studebaker bank should be paid, which puts another angle on the case and which will effect numerous other localities. - Os course every cue is being careful this y ar but that Joes not metui that you should not exert, -yourself more than usual to help

the Delta Theta Tau make the Good Fellow club a big succeM. The fund is growing nicely and we are proud of th- community for the wonderful sii-it thus shown. Keep it going so that every boy and girl will have a genuinely I happy Christmas. The sales and income tax as proposed by the governor's committee may seem radical to many but after all these are days when unusual methods must be taken. The tax burden under present laws has become unbearable to many and there must be relief. If the proposed new methods will reduce that ccnslderably it will no doubt I prove more satisfactory. Any way we ought to try something. If you have a better idea, suggest it. They are ‘‘panning’’ Mr. Hoover and the lambasting he got in congress yesterday was the hardest since the days of Wilson. The senators and congressmen as well as the president and his cabinet ■ seem to be getting real peevish | which doesn’t make much differjence. The president should origj inate some plan of sensible prokeedure that would sell the coun|try, get out his big stick and go after things. If he doesn't, the i people will continue to complain against the administration. A bill to improve the Limberlost section near Geneva will be offered by the senator frem Jay and Randolph counties and if the state proposes to spend any money along that line, we don’t know of a spot In the entire middle west better adapted. It would be wonderful to have the pleasure grounds as proposed including a lake, a restored Limberlost creek with all the birds and animals of which the late Mrs. Gene Stratton-Porter wrote so interestingly. Mr. French Quinn originated the idea several years ago and his plans have had the approval of many of those most interested in preserving outdoor »pots of beauty. A committee of the National Resi arch Council has been studying America’s little children, of elementary school age and younger. Here are some of the committee’s tragic findings: There are 3.000,000 children requiring special treatment. Os these, 14,000 are blind; 50,000 partially seeing, who should l:e in sight-saving classes; 342,000 so hard of hearing that they should be taught lip-reading; 1,000,000 so defective in speech that they require treatment; 200,000 cripples; 382,000 tuberculosis cases; 850.000 more with a trend toward Uiberculcsis; 1,000,000 with weak or damaged hearts; 075,000 presenting serious behavior problems, and 100,000 mentally retarded. Six million children were found to be malnourished. There is some special education in public schools for seriously handicapped children, but sc. far most of this work is con-
fined to a few big cities. Children with minor defects, the soil most easily corrected if taken in time, are usually more neglected than children with worse defects. o Household Scrapbook By I ROBERTA LEE | Linen Linen can be whitened by dipping in buttermilk. If it it much discolored. it should remain in the butter milk for a day or two and then be rinsed in tool, dear water, followed by rinsing in tepid water. Baby's Head An excellent preventive of scurvy is white vaseline rubbed on the baby’s head. This also acts as a splendid tonic for the growth of the hair. Fish To insure proper condition of fish always clean and wipe, sprinkle with salt, and then wrap in a clean dry cloth. — o Find Tribute to Washington . Ogdensburg, N. Y. —<U.R) —A copy of the l ister County Gazette, published at Kingston 'in 1800, in which a tribute by President Adams to George Washington, was printed was found here in an old trunk. The paper was well preserved.
