During the past ‘ several months a lot of time has | been taken up with other matters which we felt were of greatest imp; rtance to the community. Relieve we like our own job better. — / Yes. sir, its been a hard summer and we all know we've be n some where but its worth a lot of fuss and worry to come out with our beads up, looking every one in the eye and owing no one a penny, ; The clouds are rolling away and its I time to ‘'start the clock." A fellow named Kanwischer down in Vincennes died th* other day and in his will left th? income from 312,000 to the poor of that city and i provided that each pall bearer re- ■ ceive ten dollars and his share of I a keg of beer. He was about as ’ popular we presume as a dead man ] could be. Only ten days until election and most voters haven't start'd to talk about it yet. There are some im-] portant issues in this campaign not I tiie least .of w hich is how to secure ' better times and lower taxes. The , democrat? are pledg d to that plat-' form and will do all they can to obtain beth of these results. We congratulate John U. Maynard of this city on his election as vic -president of the National Embalm r's Association at tin- national convention held at Atlanta. It is a worth while honor for any man to reach such a position in a national organization and we are sure this honor comes because it is deserved. Meetings ar? now being held in various parts of the county by the democrats and good crowds are attending. The issues are being pre- ' sented in a fair and clear manner ] and we beliei the results one v .ok from next Tuesday will show that the average voter knows what ' he wants to do. They finally got “Bugs" Moran, I second best bandit in Chicago but I the gravest charge they have placed against him is vagrancy, which wont frighten him much we presume. It he and Capon? are not guilty of serious crimes how can they be so openly charged and if they are why in the kingdom come don’t they charge them with some- " th.ng that will take care of them in a sal? place? 8 Tube j RADIO Screen Grid Super Heterodyne CONSOL E SB6-00 x Decatur Electric Shop •
I Restore confidence und prosperity. That's the purpose of the ] Lion's club in this city in the camj palgn they are making this week, a glorious thing to be shooting at. Lifting ourselves by our own boot ' [ straps may not be easy but its - possible and the communities which do it will be the first to get out of (the mire or pessimism. Spend a [pillion of your earnings, keep the ball rolling. This should be a good j autumn for every one. J. B. Wiles, hustling business I commissioner of the city of Fort .Wayne will give an address at the I • high school auditorium Friday | i venine. His subject will be “What 1 | is the Matter With America?" and ' the meeting sponsored by the ! Lion's club as a part of their camj paign to "start the dock" will be i ot keen interest to all. There is! nothing the matter with America I hut oceasii nally some of the folks I who inhabit this part ot the globe; Ige t a little cross grained. If they would quit talking so [much about plans for the unemi ployment and actually put some folks to work we believe it would be appreciated more than all the bunk that is being handed out. The clubmen of Muskegon, Mich-1 igan, have the right idea. Three] hundred of them agreed to each spend 3100 last week and it went over so big that they are passing the idea along to other cities. This [ week they have what they call a I ! "spend a million a week campaign."] ' That will do it without doubt tor most of the hard times er at least] a lot of it, is in the minds of the] folks. The question of whether or note phis state will spend a lot of money i ! foolishly to try to write a new con-1 Istitution has not been discussed as I much as it should have been but | we are hi ping that every one has] i investigated the problem so he can 1 vote intelligently. We have heard I no arguments so far that have con-' vinced us that we should change; the old constitution in whole. We i Ivelieve there should be some action taken on the tax question and one I or two others, but th se it has been repeatedly held can be taken care of without a new constitution and probably better than they will be I that way. How will you vote? o Non-Inflammable Gasoline Carbon tetrachloride will make gasoline non-intlammalAe if enough is added. o Yellowstone Park First Yellowstone National park, established in 1572. was the first important game preserve in this country.
