REVELRY ENDS LEGION MEET Parade Day Closes After Demonstration Os Panic Proportions Boston, Oct. 8 —(U.R) — Revelry: attending the American Legion! convention reached Its highest peak last night and early today! when thou ands of merrymakers ran wild through Boston's streets in an unscheduled demonstration which rivalled that of Armistice day. Parked automobiles were tipped over, bonfires blazed throughout the downtown district, motor cars were deluged with paper fragments which littered the streets alter yesterday’s Legion parade, and many false fire alarms were sounded. From the upper windows of Hotel Statler, Legion headquarter.-. scores of pails of water were dumped onto motorists and pedestrians far below. Police who gathered beneath the window to investigate also were soaked. Authorities said today that Legionnaires were responsible for only a small part of the horseplay, declaring that most of those participating in the impromptu celebration were too young to be world war veterans. Federal agents who made four arrests among bootleggers openly displaying their wares to the milling throng were at one time threatened by a rbckless crowd and had to call on police for assistance. The Statler hotel was forced to lock its doors even to guests for a time. Inside, merry-making Legionnaires took possession of kitchj ens. serving rooms and elevators. I Outside police battled to disperse crowds of hoodlums. After several minor scuffles, the police made a concerted drive to clear the plaza in front of the hotel. Fists swung for a quarter of an hour before the boisterous were sent on their way with black eyes and bruised faces. open as those of old-time saloons, and one ambitious purveyor of beer set up a table in an alley entrance. Traffic in downtown Boston was at a standstill until long past mid-' night. Armfuls of paper—the remains of the paper blizzard that floated down the day-long parade yesterday—were tossed in motorists' faces. Broken glass was another hazard to drivers. Grandstands along Boston Common were jammed until early morning with men, women and children watching the hilarity and seeking a respite from the press of the mobs in the streets. o Will Preach Thursday Rev. M. W. Sunderman will preach at the Calvary Evangelical Church on Thursday Night at 7:30. Friends of the community are cordially invited. Cat Is Wary Animal Geneva. 0., — (UP) — Geneva boas(s a six-toed cat, veteran of two automobile accidents, who even keeps a wary eye on things while he sleeps. His mistress calls him Richard but he's ‘‘Pop Eye” to the neighbors. He has nix toes on each of his four feet. Staticians credit lim with only seven lives now. He's been run over twice in convincing fashion. The habit of sleeping with one eye open, neighbors state was acquired following Richard's second tiff with an automobile.
