In ten • years from now it will prove a convenient and profitable crop and in the meantime you can save taxes on that much ground which is an item these days. If you have been pushing the old apple cart up hill the past few months plan to take a vacation the week of September 9th and have . a good time at the street fair. It ought to bring back the smile and that school girl complexion. ”■ The teachers are enjoying the institute program and agree it has been a happy and splendidly arranged event. Tne lectures are • excellent and the attendance shows tie interest manifested. Mr. Striker deserves the congratulations he is receiving. Don’t sit aroufll and wait for some one to make times good for you. We know a number of people who have made good profits - this year and can smile when the . others grumble. After all its about eighty per cent what you put into 7~it. Ruth McCormick is running true ...to Hanna form in the Illinois campaign for the senatorship. She tells the wets if the state votes J' that way on the referendum she ' ' will be with them and she tells the ~ drys the same thing, with a sly wink. That's what you call going after them both ways. We can't all have it easy all the ~~ time. Perhaps most folks have made that discovery the past few — months or ayear. It has been a - rather tough period for most people but the dawn is just ahead and . then we can all make up for the mishaps we have had and we will enjoy them more because we have had the downs along with the ups. * ' All you need to do is to take a look at the program for the De- • — catur Free Street Fair and Agricultural and Livestock Exhibit, to ■ be held September 9th to 13th, to make you wish to attend every „ minute. — TODAY’S CHUCKLE taro ♦ Buckinghamshire, Eng.--While the owner and his wife are busy with other chores, Post Boy, u pony owned by a farmj er, pushes about a perambul lator carrying the baby. -e e r and old. I And next after the street fair ( will come the political campaign i with numerous meetings, many j radio talks and the drive by the • (undidates. As a good citizen you I will want to get the information as to the office seekers and what they stand for. Locally the democrats have a splendid ticket and a complete victory is predicted. 1 The sugar beet crop looks extra good and in a few weeks now they will be rolling Into market and the farmers who have raised them will be receiving fat checks. That’s the best farm relief in the world. And in addition when the big mill opens it will mean the employment of two or three hundred men, which is not to be sneezed at. The men who are making an earnest and honest effort to reinstate the banks in this city and county deserve your support and i your cooperation. Its a hard job < but a very important one and means so much to every individual that each and every one should 1 lend his sincerest aid to the cause, j This is one of the finest commun- 1 :ti?s in the world and with a con- ] tinued pulling together we will soon be sitting on top again. I Decatur merchants are invited 1 and urged to do some advertising < next week and to include a word s of welcome for the big street fair | and agricultural show. Thousands will be here and an invitation r from you to visit your store will < not be amiss and certainly will not lose you any thing. Have them ‘ make your place headquarters s whether they buy or not for building will is a very important thing about business and that’s what the fair is given so give 1 the opportunity. ( — ■ ( Baseball is a great game. It reminds us of life. One day we are ' heroes and the next day we're bums. We can hit home runs 1 every day. Remember even the , mighty Casey once struck out and there was gloom in Mudville, but 1 the next day when he cracked out a homer with the bases full he was right back in the hearts of his ' countrymen. The only thing we can do is to try to keep on hitting the ball and one good smack makes ] up for alot of errors and fans. Play , the game square, work hard, slide into second occasionally, watch the corners and eventually you are sure to win. The new tariff law is not working to the advantage of the gov- , eminent or to any one else except , pet haps a tew scattered billionaire outfits and now there is a great stew as to what can be or will be . done. They don't even dare bring [ it out and discuss it because it might not sound good to the vot- > ers to admit that it was the mistake every body thought it would be. They even made Mr. Mellon back up on his suggestion that an increased revenue tax may be necessary, the complaints of course coming from national headquarters. Well tlry have most of it coming for the way in which they handled the measure. o ~ Modern Etiquette I By | | ROBERTA LEE I * {U jq • Q. When may a man give a woman an article of wearing apparel? A.
