(UP)—The Berliner Einheitszeit company operates ;>. system of electric ally-controlled clocks throughout the city. Burglars entered the company’s branch station in the suburb of Pankow with the intention of stealing the copper wire and lead stored there. They cu down all the wires in the building apd all the electric clocks in Pankow promptly stopped running. The police reached the Pankow station just as the burglars were about to leave. Tables in Cars Leipsic, —(UP)—Something new in street cars has been introduced here. Fifty cars with small tables between the seats have been daded to the Leipsic service. Whether the tables are to be used for impromptu luncheons or for bridge parties has not yet been made clear. Plans Clown Pictures Berlin. ~(UP)—Apparently fearful lest his clownishness be lost to posterity. Crock, the famous European clown, has announced that he is organizing a motion picture company, with headquarters in Berlin, for the purpose of producing clown pictures. |

Hoover’s Gift Frankfort, — (UP) — Presiden’ Hoover has presented the University of Frankfort with a copy of Georgius Argicola's "De Re Metallica." which lie and Mrs. Hoover translated into English. ■ — o Nullify Police Rules Berlin. —(UP) — Upon Instructions from the Prussian Ministry of the Interior the Berlin police department has stricken from its books all ordinances dated before 1900 that have for one r.kson or another become obsolete or unnecessary. 1n this manner 3.937 ordinances were nullified and 204 were changed, leaving only GBB police rules adopted lietween 1890 and 1900 still in foiee. o ■ Saved the Agonies Berlin, —(UP) —Forge.fulness on the part of a concert agent perhaps has saved Berlin the agonies of an endurance singing contest. Edward Rosen, a tenor, contracted with the agent to sing for 50 hours without stopping. Ticke.s were placed on sale and all other necessary arrangements for the performance were made, except that the agent forgot to itire a hall. Rosen has now brought suit and the test, which might well have been a forerunner to another long distance endurance contest, has been called off. ——o x German Regatta Date Heligoland. —(UP) —The North Sea Regatta, Germany's famous high seas sporting event, will be held this year from June 5 to 12 and will sec English yachtsmen among the competitors for the first time it. 17 years.
