Indianapolis is having a street ' problem similar to Decatur’s on South Second street. Their streets need resurfacing and property owners want the city to do it and the city combats the suggestion that it does not have the money. In the meantime its rough riding. A poll taken by the Pathfinder magazine on the prohibition question shows the vote favoring stricter enforcement of the law. In In- ' diana the votes were tabulated 11,677 for enforcement and 4.954 in favor of changes. The Literary Digest poll is now being taken, but after these results are announced, the question will be disi cussed and in all probability will continue to be for sometime. The other day a runaway horse attracted quite a bit of attentioirand did some damage when it ran into its successor the automobile. Yesterday a cow got loose and raised considerable excitement. Police officers were called and before old Betsy could be subdued. 15 bullets had entered her hide. She died a hideous death ou the streets. If it keeps on someone will scare up a blind tiger and theu real trouble wisr siart. Sentiment in England is about as changeable as any place on the globe. Less than a year ago Premier Ramsay MacDonald and his labor party was elevated to office. Yesterday the house of commons defeated him in a test vote on the coal mine bill. MacDonald has declared that he will not resign, but as has been the custom, he and his party will have to make way for cither tire liberals or conservatives. A premier in England without the support and backing of the house of commons is about as useful as an automobile without tires. The fine weather has made it possible for the farmers to engage in spring farm work and much activity is seen in the country. Fields are being cleared and plowed, oats sowed and preparations made for the year’s work. The farmer is a busy man, has manythings to look after and from now until after harvest he will have much. ...A good crop this year will ’'nWlf'flkosjierlty to this part of the country and is one of the surest ways of restoring business throughout the nation. Our wealth starts from the ground and good years for the farmer reflect themselves in ifll lines of business.
Depauw University will receive approximately a million dollars through the will of John H. Harlison, publisher of the Danville, Illinois, Commercial-News. Mr. Harrison's death occurred last week in Miami. For several year* he was the publisher of the Danville paper and the moving spirit in the community. One day while I motoring, the story goes, he noticed a beautiful tract of land and aid. "that would make a fin? place lor a city park.” He purchased the property, built a golf course and house on it and a few years ago donated 'it to the city. Mr. Harrison was known to newspaper men throughout the middle west. He served two years as president of the Inland Daily Press Association and was a man imbued with a spirit to serve. His death removes from his community one of its finest citizens and the newspaper fraternity loses one cf its most valuable members.
