DECATUR DAILY DEMOCRAT THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13. 1930
bffiKHB^WL. Basket bawls is going to be absent from the Dally Democrat in I Friday's issue, so the Bluffton i scribes will have a last word Just before the battle. Don't forget tonight—Decatur Catholic high school eagers meet one of Ohio’s greatest basketball teams. Toledo Central Catholic netters come here for the first battle ever held between the two schools. Indications are a full house will witness the game. Coach Laurent stated this morning that the Commodores were in 'good condition. Petie Mylott who wax Injured in the Kirland game , last Friday night, will start the I game. The final practice session held yesterday, was one of the best of the season —and all the Commodores were hitting the net for long and short ones. And if the Commies continue their stride, Toledo will sec the 'ona and the short of it. Ami tomorrow night. Herb Cttr'is and Walter Krick will entertain one of the several bi products of the Wabash river—The Bluffton Kittens. The West Suburbers will be here more than 150 strong—in fact every available parking space in Decatur's spacious gymnasium will be filled. Bill Bell, former Decatur high school star atli’ete has risen to fame overnight- just like Graham' McNamee. Basketbawls listened a few weeks ago to Bill describe a crap game in which he was | interested and he did it wth j. so much pathos, that from that 5 moment on his services as an athletic broadcaster have been in demand. , — ■ Friday night. Hello' World Bel! : will tell the fo’ks who can't get I into the gymnasium, al! about the game, ft >m an absolutely unbiased standpoint if any Decatur real-1 '' •nt can talk unhiasedlv about the i ’ Su burbot's. — The broadcast will be direct from the gymnasium to the Adams j Thqptre. If you choos£ to stay at home' Friday night Call 1,000 or 1,001 i i for the score. Ba-ketbawls will be absent from the ’■truggle with the Suburbers—but sport fans can read a'l about the game in Saturday's Daily Democrat — Pau! Hancher, assistant sport editor, who pets to all the big events 24 hours ahead of time, will be there to cover the game—in fact Paul has been sitting in the gymnasium for tv-i days now waiting for the game. And Paul ha had plenty of "experience” and what ho says about the game goes— N "'.vs comes to Basketbawls that I! >ck and Boger, of the Suburb, were taken for bank bandits at Linn Grove the other day—and we I say why not?— If we were running a bank and someone with a Bluffton automobile would drive up in front, we'd lock the door and scream too. In fact, we want to scream every time wo see or hear of Huck, any-, way. But after Friday night, we'll have to kiss and make up, regardleg; of the score--Because with . the exception of Hie school months j and the three summer months this , i guy Buck isn't so bad—and with I i the exception of the first 12 months of the year, Roger Is a | pretty decent fel low —In fact he > was smart enough to .get his wife from Decatur. Yellow Jackets, while it's only another basketball game Friday, and doesn't, mean much to win—just play a little basketball and we’ll win. And in closing ladies and gentlemen — Basketbawls still believes that Decatur's Gir's’ team could beat most any Bluffton basketball team—and when the Tigers come over Friday night, they'll learn lots about the net game, from Indiana's greatest Coach and Indiana's best basketball team — and we'll see you later. o —— Mrs. Gilbert Strickler visited in Fort Wayne, yesterday. i j i
