YELLOW JACKETS DEFEAT AUBURN INNETTUSSEL Curtismen Are Victors in Local Tilt With Auburn, 32-23 Decatur high school Yellow Jackets marched through ind around a tough Auburn basketball aggregation at Decatur high school gymnasium l»st night for a 32-23 win. There was nothing spectacular about the game, both teams placed some good and some bad basketball, and with the exception of a few minutes in the first half, the Curtismen held the upper hand throughout. tn the preliminary game the Decatur high school Second team disposed of the Auburn Seconi aggregation 37-22. It was the Auburn yearling's first defeat of the season In the big game the Curt smen started out strong and ran tlx* score to 6(1. Auburn rallied to: knot the count. The officials called numerous fouls and slowed the game considerably. Dick Engle was taken from the game early and Hebble was sent in. in the first five minutes Engle gathered I tlyee personals and Coach Curtis desired to save him. After an even battle for several minutes, the Jackets again pulled away and at half time the count stood 1.5-13. The visitors scrtre<l tanst of their points in the first half on free throws. In the second period the Curt smen got a comfortable lead after the score was tied at 15-15. Coach Zeke Young substituted freely in the second stanza, and the officials continued to call many fouls on both teams. Finally Decatur spurted to make the score 32-18 anil then the Jac kets were satisfied to play a do-I fensive game. The Auburn for wards connected with a few long shots and the final count stood 32-23. There was nothing sensational about the game. The crowd became unruly on several occasions and it was necessary for the officials to stop the game twice to’ warn the crowd about "booing." , Lineup and summary: Decatur (32) FG FT TP 1 Engle, f. 1 2 -1 Hebble, f. 3 0 6 1 Reynolds, f. .2 5 31 Gerber, e.................. fl 11 I Debolt, g. 2 2 6' Schnrpp, g 1 4 Totals .9 11 .32 Auburn f 321 FC, FT TPI Dav dson, f. .. 2 1 5 ■ (Juance, f. ... .0 2 2 Hoffman, f 3 0 R Hathaway. c. 11 3 Stebing, g. fl 11 Freeman, g. 10 21 Rastenlutrg, g. 12 1 — — __ I Totals 8 7 23 1 Referee. Hartford, , Geneva. Kirkland and Berne go to ’ i Bluffton. 000— It’s a tough break financially to lose the sectional—however, it may prove to the citizens of Drcatur and the Decatur school board that the city certainly does need a gymnasium. oOo—"The beams are too low.' yo.t hear after every game here. Basketball is one of the greatest methods in the world of de velop ng mind and body — it's as essential as arithmetic or spelling or any other subject. —oOo — Decatur needs a suitable gymnasium, badly. And the fact that Decatur lost a sectional tourney this year should bring It right home to everyone.' —oOo — Os course all the breaks weren't co bad now we won't have to play Feme in the section il—and whil" the Curtismen may have to dispose of .Monmouth —at least Pleasant M Ils and Berne are out of the way. —oOo— Bluffton and Huntington with their fine sportsmanship get sectionals. —oOo — And Basketbawls being born and raised in Adams county is for Adams county—and we sincerely hope that one of the Adams county I terms com" back home next Marc h with the Bluffton sectional title tucked under their arms—Yes sir. Simon, we certainly would cheer for Ber.ie against Bluffton any clay — 000— The game last night was alright—the Jackets hadn’t drilled very hard because of final examinations all week — and the off cials didn't need a rule book—but the game ended a couple of officials. —oOo — Sixteen below zero—we hope Mr. | Arthur Tre ster's fire went out, asper taking our sectional away. — oOo — Several from here are planning on attending the Central Fort Wayne Kendallville basketball game at Fort Wayne tonight. —oOo — Now if Berne can win the Bluff [ton sectional and Decatur the Fort Wayne sectional, it'll be a pretty good old county after all. —oOo— Those aren't hard jobs- — 000— Church services at most of the 1 i local churches were d smissed early last night to show their appreciation of the school officials' fine cooperation during the last two weeks. —oOo— Rev.
