Don't drive your car past a school hack when It has stopped either to take on or to permit passengers to a fight. Its dangerous and its against the law. The revival service in the various churches of the city are attracting large crowds and much interest is being manifested, sure to result in great good to the community. Another excellent report from tile city fire department, showing a -total loss during the year 1929 of but $6,730 though the property endangered by the fires was $171,800. With a good fire company and ti)e fine equippment the danger from fire losses has been considerably reduced, so much that a decided reduction in insurance rates was granted and thats the best proof. Ten Adams county children will be admitted to Mooseheart Home at Mooseheart, Illinois, where they will be reared and educated. The opportunity thus given these children will give them an equal chance in the world with thosi having the very best education and is further pYoof of the wonderful work being done by this great fraternal body. .Five who hold appointive offices in Adams county were renamed by the board of commissioners yesterday and met the approval of every oae so far as we can learn. They include Dr. J W. Vizard, county health officer; Dr. J. M. Miller, county physician; A. J. Smith, trustee of the Adams County Memorial hospital; Harvey La Fountaine, superintendent of the county infirmary and Amos K. Stoneburner, drainage commissioner. Seventy Inmates of the Indiana refol mgtory have just been granted paroles. it would be interesting to have a complete report on these ’ same seventy a year from now i and to know how many of them had profited by their lesson and to what extent, if such punishnient does not help then of what good is It? if it docs perhaps a report would aid those in charge to bring the best from those so unfortunate as to be given over to their care. Mayor Krick started yesterday on his new term and with every indication of another excellent fqur year record. He will do all In his power to better conditions in [B 1 Decatur and assisted by able men and women and given the cooperation of our citizens in general he IB will keep the old town moving right along. Mrs. Alice Christen has assumed her place as clerk and Mrs. Ada Martin as treasurer, the new council includes Mesara. Vance, Hunter. Gllllg, Linn and Appelman. It Ci a violation of tht Indiana state laws to drive your car past a schooi hack which Is either loading or unloading children and you are Warned that arrests will follow

if the practise is continued. This is being done on resolution of the township trustees to prevent serious accidents, so many of which have occurred in other counties. The warning should be sufficient. Charles E. Magley who today retired as county highway superintendent after serving eight years deserves the sincre thanks of the citizens of the county. His job has been a difficult one for maintaining some six or seven hundred miles of macadam and gravel roads on the limited funds set aside for the purpose is much harder than the average person may think. The roads in Adame county when compared to those of any county in this section of the state measure up Mr. Magley has done well and retires with the good will of everyone. Chris Eicher, former county commissioner and one of the best known citizens of Hartford township. an experienced road builder and a man of excellent judgment has been elected county highway superintendent by the board of county commissioners. There were a couple of dozen candidates for tlie place and all of them splendid men. making the selection a difficult job for the board. Mr. Eicher will enter upon his duties at once and being an industrious man who knows his business well, should make an excellent record and we predict he will.
A. R. Ashbaucher who retired from the city council yesterday leaves a spleudid record. He was an earnest worker and strived always to represent the taxpayers to the best advantage of them. His growing business which requires constantly more of his time made it necessary for him to decline renomination, he being the only one of the old council not to be renominated and elected. His place on tlie board will be capably filled by George Appelman. Mrs. Catherine Kauffman, who retired as city clerk after eight years of excellent service and Mrs. Luella Ellsworth who served four years as clerk with great credit, both have the best wishes of their hundreds of friends. Good luck, prosperity and success to both old and new. o * TWENTY YEARS AGO TODAY I From the Daily Democrat File January 7 —Ten below zero this morning.
