Mimi Margaret Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Moore of Toledo, Ohio, and George Laurent, son of Mrs. Dora Laurent of this city wore married thio morning at the St. Peters and Paul Church, Toledo, Ohio. The ceremony was performed at seven p'clock this morning. Eugene Durkin of this city acted as attendant for the groom at the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Laurent left today for Chicago where they will enjoy a honeymoon after which they win reside in this city. Mrs. Liurent was graduated from the Decatur High School and since that time has been employed as a Clerk for (the Traveler's Insurance Company, Toledo. Mr. Laurent was graduated from Decatur Catholic High school At present he is Athletic Coach of Decatur Catholic High School mid is employed by the Cloves. as Creameries Inc,, of this city. MEETING OF W. O. M. L. The Women of Mooseheart Legion held the regular meeting of the lodge Thursday evening in the Moose Home. Folowing the meetIng the new officers were installed for the coming year as follows: Mrs. J. M. Breiner, senior regent; Mrs. J. D. Grimm, junior regent: Mrs. Archie Long, past regent; Mrs. Erwin Shafer, recorder; Mrs. Albert Glass, treasurer; Mrs. Coy Martz, outward guard- Mrs. A. J. Cook and Mrs. Arthur Miller were appointed guides. The remainder of the evening was spent in a social time. The next meeting of the lodge will be held January 9, and all legionnaires are requested to be present as the initiation of candidates will be held. The Ladies Aid Society of the United Brethren Church will meet with Mrs. Frank Bohnke, Thursday afternoon at one o'clock. Mrs. Harry Poling and Mrs. O. P. Mills will act as assisting hostesses. SURPRISED WITH BIRTHDAY PARTY Miss Miriam Haley wae delightfully surprised with a birthday party given in her honor Saturday evening at her home on High Stree'. The evening was in playing several games of bunco with Miss Virginia Miller winning first prixe Miss Helen Gray, second, and Miss Pauline Marshall, consolation. Following the games .radio music and dancing were enjoyed after which Mrs. Bert Haley, assisted by Miss Dorothy Haley, served a one course luncheon. Those present include the Misses Mary Kohls, Pauline Marshall, Pauline Affolder, Hdlen Gray, Virginia Miller, Gertrude Brandyberry, Bernadine Kolter, Mary Maxine Brown Laura A Fee Christen. at the Adams County Memorial Hos pital this morning. Helen Klinker, Monroeville, route 5. underwent a major emergency operation at the local hosiptal yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Lewis C. Helm, 328 North Fifth street, was admitted to the Adams County Memorial Hosiptal this morning where she underwent a major operation. COURTHOUSE New Suits Filed E. Frank Gass vs. J. r. Arnold, suit on note, is the title of a new suit filed in Adams circuit court. Ed A. Bosse represents the plaintiff. Summons was ordered issued. returnable January 18. Eli Girod and Charles E. Roop have brought suit for foreclosure of a mechanics lien against. James F. Arnold. The summons was ordered issued, returnable January 17. The case of Ward vs. Eastern Indiana Oil and Supply Co., suit for 110,000 damages was scheduled to go on trial in Adams circuit court today. At noon the trial was being held up awaiting the arrival of Indianapolis attorneys. The plaintiff asks SIO,OOO damages from the defendant for the death of James H. Ward, whose death occurred following an explosion at the James Ward home in this city May 12, 1928. Plaintiff alleges that Ward went to the home of his father, James E. Ward near Monroe and got what plaintiff alleges he thought was kerosene. Later Ward used it at his home ami plaintiff alleges it was a high explosive. It is understood that there is a possibility* that the case might be settled, but if it is tried in Adams circuit court today, it will be the first jury case in the present term of c'flurt. 0 , —

Decatur students left for various colleges yesterday to resume their work. The colleges open today and tomorrow and .the semester exams will soon be on, coming the latter part of thfe month. Vance Mattox of Monroe township was busy here this morning attending to business affairs. Frank Schultz of Akron, Ohio formerly of this office sends a renewal to the Daily Democrat and wishes all his old friends here a happy New Year. A happy New Year yetter from Mrs Doris S. Brittson, Dallas Texas extends greetings to the many friends here and includes the re newal of the paper to her father J. R. Shafer. She says they are all well and that the weather is perfect. J. G. Tablet - of Monroe attended to business in this city today. Miss Godie Gause of this city and Miss Helen Suddol, nurses at the St. Joseph's hospital in Fort Wayne, visited last week in Rome City. Mr. and Mrs. C. H.Brantner and son Jack of Columbus, Ohio, were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hill and son Teddy. Mrs. Brantner is a sister to Mrs. Hill.

Indiana Jan. 6 —(UF)— One fireman was injured critically ■nd the citizens National Bank of Tipton was completely destroyed when fire broke out in the basement of the building today. Lester Emuhiser, fireman, fell from a ladder at the second floor of the building and struck the concrete sidewalk with hits head.
