CENTRAL NET TEAM DEFEATS ST. JOE SQUAD Thomasmen Win First of Annual City Serie-; At I). C. H. S. Central school Eighth grade basketbull team won a victory over St. Joseph Eighth Graders in the first of the city net series between the two schools at Decatur Catholic high school gymnasium Thursday afternoon. The final score was 40-14. The game was well-played by Ih.ili teams, and while the Thomasmen led all Ihe way, the St. Joseph uelleis caused them plenty of worry during the first hal'. The half way rest found Central leading 13-3. The St. Joe defense had worked good and it was the first time this season that Central had been held to 13 points in one period. In the second half. Saunders, Central pivot man got loose for a lot of shots and peppered the basket for six field goals. Blythe added three and Cowan and Baumgartner each added one. For St. Joseph, Hain scored 7 points; Meyers added three, more; Sonny Ehinger hit the net for a two-pointer and la>se and Bentz each counted a flee throw. The game was officiated by B 111 Bryan. Kirkland township high school net mentor in fine style. The second of the city series will be played at Decatur high school i and the da;e will be announced later.
