C. C. Schafer Hurt In Auto Accident C. C. Schafer well known local busii ness man is recovering from severe bruises received in an automobile wreck which occurred three miles east of Warsaw last Thursday night when he was returning from a trip to the | north part of the state. The road was | covered with ice and hfs car skidded, | going down a ten foot embankment I where it turned over. Mr. Schafer was taken to the War- ■ saw hospftal and was able to come ! home last evening. S. Weather bureau indicated that readings far below' normal would continue for the next day. Terre Haute reported the lowest temperature last night, with 2 degrees below zero. Indianapolis registered 1 degree below, and readings were generally near zero. Evansville reported 6 above zero. Temperature will rise slowly tonight, but may be as low as 10 above zero in Indianapolis, J. H. Armington, U. S. weather bureau meteorologist, predicted. Continued rising temperature was forecast for tomorrow'. The cold wave had the entire middlewest at its mercy, morning readings showed. Springfield. 111., reported 2 below aero, and Louisville, Ky„ had the same reading. Light snow struck Fort Wayne, but no fail of consequence occurred in the atate during the past 24 hour-;, and none was predicted for the next 24 hours. No deaths directly traceable to the cold had been reported in Indiana I from the second wave. Two persons died in the first cold spell of the season, Ute last week. i
LEAGUE TEAMS OPEN SCHEDULE Decatur high school basketball league opened last evening at the high school gym. The first two games were landslides for the winners. Buffenbarger was high scorer for his team with seven field goals and one foul. Bvrk of the same team was a close second with three field goals aud two fouls. For the losers Coffee and Parrish tied for leadership with one field goal each. DePauw won 27-4. In the second game Wabash defeated Earlham 15-2. V. Hill and Handier led the scoring for their team with three field goals each. Shraluka led the scoring for his team with two foul shots. The final game was harder fought, ending with Hanover defeating Frank lin 10-8. Green led his team in scoring with one field and two foul shots.
