TRESTER ANO DEAN ADDRESS ATHLETIC MEET N. E. 1. Officials Entertain For Coaches And Principals At Fort Wayne Urging strict adhetance to the I. IJ. S. A. A. rules and censuring coaches and principles who rushed out on the field of play during atheltic contests. Arthur 1.. Trester, commissioner of Indiana High School Athletic Association spoke to more than 200 athletic officials, principals and coaches at the annual banquet of the Northeastern Indiana Officials association held at the Anthony hotel Tuesday night. Mr. Trester praised the Northeast ern association ami stat'd that high school athletics were a success in this part of the state because of the great interact shown from all angles. Walter Geller, president of the offi cials' association acted as toastmaster at the banquet and introduced sev eral prominent school and athletic offi cials of Northern Indiana, including O. R. Hangs, of Bluffton, president of the Northeastern Indiana Athletic association. Following Mr. Trester’s address, Everett Dean, coach of Indiana University's basketball team delivered ti lectin e. The first part of Dean's ad e dress was for officials and he quoted - several Big Ten officials in outlining I the attitude and duties of a good has- ( ketball referee 1 The second part of Dean's lecture was a series of stereoptican slider, i showing various plays and positions of players. , Last night's banquet was the largest i ever held by the N. E. I. Officials. Following the banquet and program, a < general discussion of basketball rules was held. Those from Decatur who attended the meeting included. George Laurent, a Lawrence Beal. H. L. Curtis. Max Kidd. I Steve Everhart. Gunnar Elliott, who three weeks ago became Mrs. Elliott's husband, made his first public appearance since he “crossed the river.” —oOo — That Decatur is one of the basket-| ball centers of northeastern India m| was evidenced by the fact that George Laurent and Herb Curtis, coaches of the two local high schools, were swamped with requests for games—and several of the state's leading officials were anxious to work games in Decatur this season. —oOo — Among the prominent Indiana officials present were George Yarnell. | Jesse Reno, Ford Griffith. Cleary. Walter Geller and practically • every member of the N. Among other things, Zeke claims the joint Northeastern Indiana football championship for his Auburn team. His team was undefeated during ithe season and tied once—the only other undefeated grid team in the league is Central of Fort Wayfie—Central plays Concordia Saturday and if the Tigers come through with a victory they too probably will be given a half seat on the championship chair with Auburn.
But now that the meeting Is over—Decatur and Adams county net fans are probably more interested in their own teams. —nOo— The Yellow Jackets gel into action for the first time this seaaon Friday night lure against Monroeville. oOo — The Commodores cut their anchors next Wednesday night with a game at the Catholic high school gymnasium —St. Marys of Huntington furnishes the opposition. —oOo Monroe and Monmouth open their net seasons at Decatur high schoolgymnasium Saturday night. One thing, they agree, may result from the situation even it the tariff is enacted —a resentment among the western and southern states against the designations placed upon them by some of the eastern leaders. They believe this resentment may go so far as o increase the independent Republican representation in the next senate and the house, but they scoff at the possibility of a third party break by the western states or a coalition presidential candidate against the republicans.
