It was given credit for increasing the breach between regular Republicans and their independent colleagues. When Caraway reminded him of the agreement tislay, Grundy said he had not understood he was to give su< h a list of senators, but Caraway said he would call for the official record of the testimony to prove the agreement. Grundy said that wan not necessary. "All right," Caraway said, “I’m going through the list. Lets begin with Heflin of Alabama. Do you approve of him?" "Senator, it would lie unbecoming of me as a private citizen to classify senators in that way,” Grundy said. “When did you decide to welch?” “I won't say that.
