Rabbit after rabbit fainted at the I i sight of the Adams county party, and I when the official count was made late yesterday afternoon a total of 12, 11929 model rabbits had been bagged. 1„ „ — With that winter taste in the air, thousands of basketball fans in the old Hoosier state are tuning up their lungs for the big season. Hardwood floors are being polished in a thousand Indiana gymnasiums—and in the next two weeks, just about every basketball team in the state will get v into action. f 3 Coach Herb Curtis is tuning up a Yellow Jacket aggregation to open the local net season next Friday ni ht against Monroeville high school. < A few football injuries are bring car- | ried over into the basketball season — ' ' but most of the Curtlsmen are in good ’ shape for the first week’s grind. s Carl Gerber, veteran of three f seasons with the Jackets, is great- t ly improved after injuring his c left leg in football. Dwight I t Schnepp, floor guard for the Cur- e tirmen last year, is ready for ; - practice after nursing an injured ankle for the last three weeks. t Debolt. Reynolds. Roop, Engle, and f , ill the rest of the boys are working t hard for the opening next Friday s 1 night—Tickets will go on sale in a iday or two —Season catds will sell for $5.00 and single admission tickets i will be 50 cents a game. r | Coach Curtis and the two assistant c ; coaches. Max Kidd and Steve Ever- f I hart, predict a great season-for the v !Jackets. Here's the home schedule: J Nov. 15—Monroeville ' Nov. 22 —New Haven ' t Dec. 13—Berne I i Jan. C. IL i S.-for berths on the first squad. j Coach Laurent has the beet material I for a team this year that he has had ; in the last four years. Gass and Gage, at forward: Wenthoff at center and Mylott and Harris >t guard, is a favorite se’ectlon of, the Commodore mentor — But Klein-! ihenz and Vian are showing groat possibil'ties at guard positions and either of the two latter will force; Mylott and Harris to work their be t jail the time. Holthouse, Lose, Krick, Miller and ’ I Hess are scrapping for forward posi- i tions and any of them can go into] the first team lineup without weak- i ening the combination any. It's the first time for several years that the Commodores have had such reserve strength—and it looks like the old ship was going to sail faster than ever this year. Berne Bears are showing a lot of; > strength this year so far —Two news- i naper columnists at Berne, Simon . Schwartz and Ed Liechty. are boost-1 e Ing Berne against the world — and! 8 everyone will have to "look, out for j t the Bears.” e >f Kirkland is showing a lot of imn provement every game and the Kanjgaroos have been meeting some fast e ■ company, too. r. h Indications are that Monmouth n and Monroe are going to have some good net teams this year—

better than average—an Geneva, and Hartford already have started their seasons. Out at Coach Olen Marsh's stronghold. the Jefferson aggregation is working hard—and that team of lanky 1 players has been doing a lot of scor Ing in early games. » Bollenlxu-her, center, has lieen scoring about enough points in every game to win singlehanded. So all in all, Adams county has a lot of good net teams — and we'll match the teams of this county against any county in the state. And all we said about rule books luring the football season, still goes —and we st’ll think the Yellow Jackets are better than Bluffton and we know the Commodores can trim Centra’ Catholic of Fort Wayne in any gymnasium in the state —so what else matters , 0 ♦ ♦ Along the Sidelines -(U,R>4! Lafayette, Ind., Nov. 12. —A Purdim squad uraampered with injuries, fresh from a week-end battle which did not tax its reserve strength, and confident of its ability to clear the last hurdle to the Big Ten championship, prepared today to stem the momentum of the Hawkeyes. Coach Phelan planned to put the team through a thorough drill today.' but stormy weather promised a wet j field. It was understood there would be but three days of gruelling preparat on for the ail-impor.ant game with iowa next Saturday. Bloomington. Ind. —A week of idleness has given Coach Pat Page the time he wanted in which to scan his cons s ently losing Indiana university football team, and a lineup peppered w th new faces is his promise for the Northwestern tilt, as a result. The no-win-no-shave club may look to a revamped, arid perchance an ini- ■ proved team, to gu de them from their wilderness of whiskers, but if there is a Moses even in this new lineup he is traveling under a nom de plume. Ends announced for 'he Northwestern game are Hansen and Thomas; tackles, Hojnacki and Jasper; guards.j Rascher and Zeller; center. Mamow-j ski. quarterback. Ashby; halfbacks.. Dauer and Koenig; and fullback, Bal-i ay. Evanston. 111. — The Northwestern Wildcats, tired from playing two hard, games in a row, are taking things; comparatively easy this week in prep-| aration for Saturday's game with Indiana. Drills will become harder as the w-eek wears away as a victory; over .he Hoosiers will mean a possible tie for first place in the conference. Chicago.—Coach “punished" his Chicago Maroons yesterday for losing to Wisconsin by sending them through a long scrimmage. All of .he players except Wattenberg are in good condition to meet Illinois at Ur- , liana Saturday and Wattenberg whose thumb was sprained, is expected to li ecover in time for the game. An aerial attack is the best offensive threat the Maroons have and Watten-
