Linn, Hunter, Mrs. Christen and Mrs. Martin. That’s the democratic ticket, ail airignt, willing to serve you to the best of their ability. The farm bloc seem to be strong enough to prevent the Hooverites putting anything over ou them in the senate but the trouble is that they are not getting any where themselves. Arrange your affairs so you can attend the public meeting at democratic headquarters Thursday evening. There willtbe talks by 11. M. DeVoss, D. B. Erwin and Dick D. Heller and others. They are trying to run the lobbyists out of Washington, which by the way might be better for the public which is rarely if ever represented by any special workers. The lobbyists usually represent some group which wants something. Two weeks from tomorrow is election day. Make it your personal and particular business to vote and to see that your friends vote. Remember you are selecting the men who will have charge of your affairs the next four years. It’s a very important job. If you do not vote you should not complain about how public affairs arc conducted. It's so easy to pass it up and say “Oh my vote is only one and won't change it any way,” but if you do that and a hundred others do likewise you can readily see that it does make a difference. The stock market has been slipping steadily the past few weeks and there is alarm now that it is in for a real one. Stocks are worth just what they bring a return on and no more and when the prices reach that point, the drop will cease you may rest assured and when that time comes the country will be healthier. Voters are cordially invited to attend the first public political meeting of the city campaign to be held at democratic headquarters, Thursday night of this week. There will be a general discussion of the issues and the candidates which you should hear. It remains only for sufficient interest to be aroused to get the vote out and the democratic victory is assured. Governor Leslie has paroled five more prisoners, these from the penal farm. Two of these were sent up for the crime of criminal assault, two for liquor law violations and one for larceny, what’s the use to go to the expense and effort of running down and arresting and trying law violators If the powers that be liberate them as fast as they are sentenced? And the governor rants about a crime commission and law enforcement. Though the city lias spent several hundred thousand dollars the past six years, making necessary splendid improvements, we ask you to remember that it has been done without increase of taxes and even though reductions have been made in light and power rates. That certainly ought to be satisfactory service. Your vote for the democratic ticket will show your approval of the honest, progressive and sound administrations of Charles Christen. Charles Yager, Huber DeVosa ami George Krick.
TODAY’S CHUCKLE Keene, N. H. —(UP)— Thieves took the automobile of Mrs. May Willow Nickerson of this city “tor a ride." Stolen here, the machine was recovered in Winner, South Dakota. The two Bluffton dailies, the Banner and News have merged and after November Ith will be kuown as the Bluffton News Banner. It Is a smart business deal, sure to make the stock of those interested more valuable and will give to that community a newspaper of great merit. David H. Swaim will become president; George Saunders, manager; Roger Swaim, assistant manager, with, a staff combining those now engaged on the two papere. The new daily will be operated as an independent newspaper from the office now occupied by the Banner. Mergers have been made in most of the county seat towns and cities, it being agreed that there is a field for but one newspaper in a community of ordinary size. We bespeak great success for the new company. We have lived here a good while and have t riled to keep rather closelv in touch with public affairs, especially those affecting Decatur and Adams county and in the two score year's that we can remember the general condition has never been so good—audit didn’t just happen as you may think. It has come because of a concerted effort continuing some twenty years. We have arrived at a point now when we have “licked’’ our city debt and have money in the treasury. It has been a big job and well performed. The past few years have been wonderful because they saw the culmination of the dreams of those who planned it. We are going forward splendidly and we can advance even more rapidly the next few years if you let those who are conducting the city affairs, continue to do so. — 0 — • BIG FEATURES • • OF RADIO • ■«««?***•••«■ Monday's Five Best Radio Features CBS — Network and combined NBC Networks 6:30 pm.
