The 1930 national convention of the American Legion will be held in Boston, making a long but very delightful trip for “Shucks’’ and the rest of the boys who never miss. The senate proceeded to sit on the president the second tigie in the few months he has served as chief executive. By a vote of forty-seven to fortytwo, they decided to make the tariff commission an agency of congress instead of the president. Senator Robinson undertook to “take the hide off'' Senator Borah the other day in a tariff speech but the Idaho veteran never blinked an eye or let on like he heard him. He probably considered Arthur a boy who just had to “say a speech” for the consumption of the home folks. There Is a tang of autumn in the air and the nights are exceedingly cool. Its the time of year and other kind of weather would be unseasonable. Its time to be thinking about your winter clothing, fuel and other necessities and the Decatur stores and shops are filled with the best goods for the least money. So far no steps have been taken towards a fall opening or special dayn of any kind, that we have heard of. If its done, its time to get busy and it would prove a splendid thing tor every body if it was. Activities help and if its not done collectively it can be done by each store. Let’s put snap into the fall trading season. That man Sherer may be as smart as he claims he is and may have drawn the exorbitant salaries he claims to have received from the republican central committee, William Randolph Hearst, the shipping board and others but the story sounds to us like the propaganda of a first-class promoter advertising his own game. Reginald Sullivan, nominated by the democrats for mayor of Indianapolis is one of Indiana's finest men. He is a lawyer of ability, is capable as an executive and popular. He should be elected for it would mean four years of careful administration that would help the city which has been pointed out everywhere because of the wrong leadership in power there. Wonderful if true is the reported fact that Lj Ching-Yung of Kaihsein, China, is now in his 252nd year with no signs of weakening. He claims to have found the fountain of youth in the shape of medicinal plants which grow on the hills of Lunnan. What a relief for every one and how valuable those hills will suddenly become. Os course we from Indiana and Missouri will have to “be shown.’’ Check up the Krick administration and you will find it one you will be ♦ proud of as a citiesn. We have grown in every way and progressed conservatively. We have the finest city plant in the state or one of them at least and we have money in the banks. Mr. Krick and his assistants will continue that kind of city government if elected next mouth. They deserve

A man named Frolkey in 1 Lemars, lowa, who had been a foot- ► i ball star in college, a minister of 1 ability and a successful business and real estate man has committed suicide after admitting that he was the lone bandit who held up the Sioux City bank and escaped with $13,000. He didn't need the money and was too old to be thrill hunting so nobody can explain his Jekyl and Hide career. Up in Porter county a woman and her son have been charged with murder and the evidence it is claimed is rather conclusive. Now it is being contended that they should go free because of their being some doubt as to whether the crime was committed in Porter county or Lake. It does seem to a poor ignorant layman that it would be murder even in Lake county. We certainly do make a joke out of our court system and law enforcement some times, don’t we? Limberlost Trail, extending from Rome City to Portland, passing by the old cabin at Geneva and the site of the once famous Limberlost creek, is to be marked. That’s important Tor all over the world can be found admirers of the late Gene StrattonPorter who will be glad to be so directed if ever in this section of the country. The marking will be unique and in the years to come will guide many a nature lover through this part of the middle west. o ♦ — Household Scrapbook By ROBERTA LEE Laundering Lingerie Instead of starching, drop a few lumbs of sugar into the rinse water, and dainty lingerie will be beautiful after it is ironed.
