TEXTILE TRIAL STARTS TODAY State Begins Introduction Os Evidence In North Carolina Murder Trial Charlotte, N. C., Sept. 5. — UJ.R)-— With selection of a Jury completed after nine days In which 355 veniremen were igueytloned, the state of North Carolina began introduction of evidence today in the trial of 16 textile strickers arising from the shooting to death of Chief of Police O. F. Aderkolt of Gastonia. Foremost among witnesses the state expected to present today are the widow and dark-haired 21-year-old daughter of Aderkolt. who were to be questioned about the last remarks made by Aderkolt as he lay dying from wounds. State attorneys expect their testimony to refute reports that Aderholt requested no one be prosecuted for his death. “I don't know why they shot me,” Aderholt said, according to Solicitor Carpenter. ‘‘l always tried to do the right thing by them.” Two eye witnesses to the pitched battle between strickers and police during which Aderholt was killed also were to testify while physicians who ministered to the dying officer expected to officially establish his death, and its cause for court records. The 13 men defendants face death in the electric chair as the maximum penalty if convicted of murdering Aderholt while the three women prisoners are being tried for second degree which carries penalties of from two to 30 years in prison. o — Roy Johnson visited in Angola this afternoon, where he attended to business. ,

The prisoners atincked Cecil McHenry, night jailer, when he opened a door to Hie prison's hull pen to place tied clothing on a cot for a new inmate. He was alone when the uttack occurred. McHenry said the men rushed him. slugged him with a broomstick and took Ills keys. His cries attracted federal authorities on a floor above who rushed to his assistance and probably prevented other prisoners from dualling to liberty. Those who escaped were: Sam Relhman, 22, Chicago, charged with kidnaping Dick Johnson, president of the South Bend band and robbing him of $13,000: Jeff Harris, 26, negro, burglar; Bert Zimmerman, 27, Chicago, federal prisoner held for violation of the Dyer act and Mose Stevens, 42, negro, who terrorized more than Si) homes here the past summer. Authorities in Chicago and other cities have been given descriptions of the men and asked to he on the lookout for them.
