Down at St. Louis they were wondering "what the poor Robin would do" when the frosts of winter came. Do you suppose it will be any hotter in the m xt world and do you reckon the nights will bo as comfortable as they are here?
It seems to be taking some argument to secure the right-of-ways on the east highway but eventually it will be secured Why not now? Any one who plans to ’ake the record away from O'Brine and Jackson are not going to do it on a two weeks vacation, which may stop some of the attempts. It would only require a few days to beautify the north river bank but so far we haven’t heard of any definite steps being taken towards that splendid improve® nt. Now Indiana has caught ’he fever and Indianapolis is to put on an air endurance contest with a $20,000 plane and $40,000 for expenses. It will set sail about the middle of August. Dr. Snook says he had an over dose of "excitants" which caused him to murder his stenographer and now a lot of folks are wondering whether that, is a produc from the still or from a Chinese ambassador.
Lindbergh made his plane named that famous and incidentally himself. Now thb record breakers for endurance flights arc again calling attention to the fact that St. Louis is a great plane city. A number of building projects in this vicinity the opening of a new subdivision, a general Improvement in conditions ar in sight for the next few months, making this the best year in Decatur's history. That's the proper spirit boys, keep it up and we will soon be living in the best town in America. Keep the weeds cut. Remember we are approaching the season of the year when the blossoms from certain weeds cause those inclined to hay fever and other ailments common to the season, to really suffer. Yon don’t want that and yon do appreciate it when some one else keeps their propi rty up. [f we all do it, the general good will be great. Driving wth mufflers open is a law violation and we expect the officers any evening to make a haul of these offenders. Drivers have been very careful this year in this community and there have been comparatively few accidents. The public appreciates it and so do the city authorities, so please help keep the record up.
Governor Roosevelt, of New York, on a visit to Montreal, Canada, declined a glass of .champagne recently W.‘ |s the rfptrit of Igw considerably farther than do most tourists from the U. S. A., and the governor explained he was doing it to assist those who are trying to give the dry laws a fair trial. Franklin D has always been a real lie man and is one of the finest governor* the Empire state has ever had on the Job.
TODAY’S CHUCKLE Edenton N. C. —(UP) — An unoccupied home hero was destroyed by fire recently- The conflagration is laid to unknown crapshooters. The game must have gotten hot toward the end. They need never apologize for him. A few years ago a plan for farmer ownership of immense terminal elevator holdings at Chicago was formulated, under private initiative. The theory was that the resulting corporation, through close relations with state agricultural bureaus, could centralize and co-ordinate marketing on a considerable scale. On that occasion financial troubles developed in carrying through the policy. Meanwhile, a wider acceptance of the co-operative principle hak become evident, although co-operation remains a primary concern of the farm board. Now that government has enlisted in the work of organiztaion the outcome in joint achievement may be different. — Indianapolis News. Your home county paper! Jus' what does it do? Without giving that question much consideration, one might not realize the part that it does play in a community’s life.
