Now we do It by plane and train In a day and a half. This Is the speed-em-up age. If that Illinois woman who choked her 200 pound husband to death and then dragged him a halt mile, gets out in time, she would make a good attraction as a strong girl at the Indiana county fairs. It is claimed that a New Kensington, Pa., girl ate a hundred ice cream cones on a bet in 105 minutes. Don t believe she did it and if she <|'d she is entitled to a worse "stnmmy" ache than she had in her green apple days. Occasionally a fellow may get away safely after he drives up tn a filling station, orders gas and then drives off without paying but usually the attendant glam s at your license number and has an almost uncanny memory. That's a poor game. Arthur. Carr, of Indianapolis, has the distinction of being the first to have bis driver's license revoked for driving while Intoxicated. As was stated its easy to get a license but just as easy to Jo- e it. By the way. if you haven't your 1 cense now you are liable. You who think “old Dobbin" is rapidly becoming one of the extinct mammals may get another and a different idea by investigating. According to Wayne Dinsmortp secretary of the Horse Association of America, is authority or the statement that there are 20,500,000 horses in America and that the equine population is increasing rather than decreasing. The reports of the state examiners just made public show the hooks of the county treasurer, auditor, clerk and recorder and the treasurer of the Decatur school board to be correct and in balance. The reports cover present officers ami their predecessors and the record is a splendid one of which every citizen here may feel proud. It-; something to have honest and efficient officers such as we have in this <ity and county. The committee in charge of raising funds for paying premiums at the Agricultural Street Fair to he held here the we k of September 10th will conclude tie i drive Thursday of next week. In a otie-day campaign last week more than half .'he desired $3,000 was pledged and it is the hope of those in charge that next Thursday's drive will put them over the top. It wil be a big event and one that should create the friendliest feeling for Decatur The farm relief measure will evidently not help the average Indiana farmer with his wheat crop. , The golden grain is moving to market now in the south part of the state and the average price is SI.OB. In a couple of mouths it will probably be considerably more but many of the WffiwrS cannot vtyft for the top price Monnsc of need for cash/ The same will probably be true of the oats end other grain crops this year. TODAY’S CHUCKLE Worcester, Mass — (UP) —"I wanted to he handy to the movies,'" explained 99-yearold Henry C. Graton when he left a relative's farm to take up residence in this city. I will be able to enjoy this thoroughfare however Is a guess as we understand the seven miles just north of here Is to be closed soon so that a coat of top dressing can be put on. However that should not require long and Indications are that we will soon have a hard surface road all the way from Berne to Fort Wayne and on north. The Indiana rural carriers had a very interesting and helpful session at Decatur, the local men report, and the city of Decatur simply did the grand thing in entertaining them. Around three hundred were registered, including the women of the party, and the session lasted from Saturday evening until late Monday afternoon. The banquet at the Country Club was a very successful affair, and the promoters are well pleased in the good time they were able to extend to their visitors.—Bluffton Banner. John I). Rockefeller celebrated his ninetieth birthday this wei k and is still in good health. He has had a remarkable career. He was the world’s richest man some twenty-five years ago, retired with a billion, has been busy since trying to give away the income, succeeding fairly well. When he was sixty he was about ready to pass on to another world, but instead he went on a strict diet, licked his stomach ailment and is now at ninety, in better health, than the average man of seventy. The old boy is smart. Household Scrapbook By ROBERTA LEE Rolling Twine Instead of rolling twine into a ball, use the little wooden handle that comes on packages. Hang this handle on a hook near the kitchen door and it will be handy when putting away the twine, as well as when ready to use it. Cold Tea Instead of throwing away cold tea, use it for watering the plajits. It will enrich them wonderfully. Shloride of Lime Chloride of lime should be poured in the bathroom toilet frequently to keep it sanitary. o MODERN ETIQUETTE By ROBERTA LEE Q. When introducing two persons, is it coiect to say, "Mr. Brown. I want you Io shake hands with Mr. Smith" A. No; such phrases show poor taste. Q. What is the correct size for dinner napkins? ANGLER BLAMES FISH SHRINKAGE Santa Ke., N. M. July 11—(UP)— \ Shrinking fish are in for a couit test and a new alibi is bein formulated for fishermen caught with fish smaller than the law allows. It may even be used by the man who really catches the "fish that was so big but got away." Just say "he shrunk when I pulled him from the water and all will be well," according to a local fisherman Several days ago a fisherman was arrested near here for having short fish in his possession. "But.,l' the fisherman told E. L. Perry, state game ami fish commissioner, "they were regulation size when J caught them." Tire fish in question were half, an inch shor,er than the standard, but the fisherman v.‘as so emphatic that they were six inches Jong when caught that lie caught another fish “just to show" the game warden. The small fish did shrink, the warden admitted. But the case now will have to be decided by the courts, and in the future fishermen may have to "allow for shrinkage" when catching fish that are just over the size limit.
