aireet and the east by J ack Ron street by the high Rounding name of Alexander. Mr. Dailey put the name down hi his hook, and christened the baby But afterwards along came pioneer Heudabaker in '53 and platted out some ground acrofl* the north road and called his baby ‘'Buffalo." Well, Buffalo swallowed up Alexander. Then In the early 70'r along came Uncle 'Villlam Parry with the Fort Wayne, Cincinnati and Richmond railroad and he, by and with the consent of all and sundry, named the station Geneva and the name of Buffalo went the way of all flesh. So It became Geneva and that it will he, 1 suppose, to the end of the chapter but at any rah* I rather wish that the name “Uftiberlost ’ had stuck. We|], the new settlement grew and prospered and then one day some one needed a waler well and he was uncertain just where to dig that well and he sent for a soothsayer, who manipulated a divining rod " and the magician prospected and his "divining rod" dipped and he said “dig here" and they dug and Io and behold they found petroleum instead of water, and
natural gas and everybody got a "divining rod” and a feverish populace drilled oil and gas wells frantically and tile eartli yielded up het treasures and vast quanities of oil was found and everybody became rich over night. But, alas, the evil days camo and the oil wells froze up or something and the gas wells gasped out. and that whole period was n glorious chapter while jt lusted. But "Limberlost," I mean Genova, was still there and going strong and the Drews', Hales', Briggs’, Juilys’, Butchers' and all the rest of the, clans held the fort and the town grew steadily. Charley Porter ran the drug store and he brought his bride Gene Stint ton there and she fouud the "Umberlost” swamp right at her cottage door and that swamp was ready and waiting to be talked about anil written about and Mrs. Porter saw its glories
Theodore Roosevelt Said The law of worthy life is fundmentally the law of strife. It is only through labor and painful effort, by grim energy and resolute courage, that we move on to better things. and millions of folks know of the "Linibcrlost" and sonic day there will be a slate park there and everybody live happy ever afterward. (To Be Continued) — o -— — ■ River Turns And Flows Backward Manistee, Mich, June 28 (UP)— " ’Till the river flows backwards” has usually been considered quite a long time, anil has tnnished a compart on by which sweethearts were wont to declare the duration of their love. But in Manistee this would scarcely be wise, for the Manistee river, defying all natural law, recently took a spell of about a half an hour in which it flowed backwards. The phenomenon was first noticed by Joe Wieinski local bridge tender, whose story is sup ported by several bystanders. Boxes, dead-heads, hits of rubbish
floating downstream, slopped, turned about and floated upstream under the current estimated ut about five miles per hour. The extreme height of Lake Michigan was believed responsible for the phenomenon.
