INDIANA HAS 334 FIRES IN MONTH OF APRIL Total Loss Durinjj Month Was $627,415, State Fire Marshal Reports The State Fire Marshal Department announces the fire loss statistics for April 1929. In the month of April there were 334 fires. Os these 182 occurred in cities as over 5.000 population, 68 in cities and towns with populations under 5,000, and 84 in the rural sections (which included the small villages). Os the 182 fires occurring in cities with a populatio not more thpn 5,000 the smallest number were in Bedford, Coc: 1 prsv'ille, Frankfort, Franklin, Peru, and Winchester, each of which had one fire. Fort Wayne had the most which was 33. South Bend had 19, Gary 18, Lafayette 16, Vincennes 11, and Terre Haute 10. The total file loss for the state during April was $627,415. Os this $295. 913 was in cities of more than 5,000 population; $85,172 in cities under 5.000 population; and $246,330 in the rural sections. In the cities of over 5,000 population. the city of South Bend had the greatest loss, of $101,814. Tipton had Idsses amounting to $43,706; Hobart $37,500; Kokomo $32,413; and Brazil SB,IBB. The city of Winchester had the smallest loss, which was $lO. Although Fort Wayne had 33 fires its loss was only $6,700. The fire loss at Terie Haute with 10 fires was $1,528. Hobart had 3 fires, Kokomo 3, and Tipton 4. Gary’s 18 files caused a loss of only $4,185. The value of the property involved at Hobart was $76,000. Thus Hobart had a 49 per cent loss. The value of the property involved at Gary was $656,350. Therefore Gary had a .6 ot 1 per cent loss. The loss at South Bend was 25 per cent; at Kokomo 18 per cent; at Tipton 32 per cent; at Terie Taute 3 pel cent; and at Fort Wayne 3.7 per cent. The total value of the property involved in fires in cities of over 5,000 population was $2,410,899 and the loss was 12 per cent. In cities and towns under 5,000 population, the value of property involved was $309,125 and the loss was 27 per cent and in the rural sections the property value was $469,429 and the loss was 53 per cent. Out of the 84 filial fires, Boone county had 10, which was the greatest number, and the greatest fire loss, which was $46,819. Clay County had 6 fires and loss of $10,456; Warrick county hail 9 fires and a loss of $16,170; and 53 counties reported no fires at all. —s o I. U. Coroner Gives Verdict In Death Os E. J. Fogarty South Bend, Ind., June 13 (VP) Coroner C. B. Crumpacker, in a statement issued here today, said that Warden Edward J. Fogarty died of a bullet wound in the head inflicted while temporarily demented. “All the evidence presented to me is indicative of a man suffe " i " g a complete physical and mental bn akdown," the coroner said.
