Miss Helen Eby of Arlington, Neb. While swimming in the Loup river near here recently, Laverne attempted to paddle acrost the stream. The current pulled him under in mid-stream where the water was about 12 feet deep. The excited cries of others in the group attracted the attention of Miss Eby who was on the bank a short distance up the stream. She swam for the boy and after a short struggle, pulled him out on a sand bar. He was retived with difficulty. Kist, son of A. A. Kist, of Portland, who is well known here, was graduated. Monday, from the course in journalism at the Oregon state college, at Corvallis. Oregon. During the last, two years, Robert held the position of editor of the Oregon State Barometer, the college publication. He expects to arrive in Portland the latter part of this month for a visit with relatives and friends, after which he will engage in journalistic work in Indiana.
