D. H. S. BEATEN IN PITCHER'S BATTLE A shoestring catch of a line drive In the seventh inning by Hickson, in center Hold, saved the day for the Bluffton Tigers in their hasehall game with the Decatur Yellow Jackets, at Bluffton, yesterday afternoon, and gave the Tigers a 1-0 victory in a brilliant pitcher's liattle between Schamerloh, of Decatur, and Schreiber, of Bluffton. It was the last game of the season for both teams. Decatur was trailing 1-0. when th n y opened the seventh and last inning. With one down. Hebhle singled and stole second. Gerber, nevt up. sineled and Hebble took third. Gerber then stole second. Things looked rosy for Decatur. Brown, the next hatter up, connected with the pill and sent a hot line drive out to center Held. It looked like a sure hit and the two men on bases started fir home. However. Hickson came in fast and barely caught the ball before It touched the ground. He then threw to second to double Gerber before he could return to the bag, retiring the side and ending the game. Had Hickson been unable to make the catch, both Hebble and Gerber would have scored what might have been the winning runs. Both teams played almost errorless ball yesterday, the only misplay of the game being charged to Manlier. Decatur shortstop, who erred on a difficult play. Gerber, the only four-letter man in Decatur high school, played his first and only baseball game of the season yesterday and his play was one of the features of the game. He obtained two hits and made a brilliant catch Tn center field which robbed Bluffton of a hit. Fred Brown, who got one hit out of three times up yesterday, boosted his batting average to .250, which makes him the leading batter of the squad. Schamerloh held the Tigers to three hits, two of which came in the third innng and accounted for the lone run of the game. Studebaker doubled and scored when Rector, next! man up. singled. Decatur made only; four hits of Schreiber, Bluffton hutler. Box score: Decatur AB R II E Ladd, lb 3 0 0 <i I
