Money not only talks but makes others do so. It must be nice to have made and saved enough money that one can carelessly remark, “Oh money’s not everything.’’ ■» I A woman down in Savanah has married her fifth husband at ninety years of age. That ought to he about her last lap. • While working out the farm relief . bill tho congressmen could make a .hit by providing that all our bills can run as long as lias the McNary-Ilaug-1 en. - ~ Boys and g rls in Adams county—join the sugar beet club. Write Ferd Christen, county agent and he will : tell you all about it. A commission from Europe is in this country to study traffic conditions ami if they don't stay on the sidewalks they are likely to get a practical demonstration that will make them “sore.’,’ Mr. Coolidge is going in the life insurance business, as a director of a New York company. Now if they send him out to write policies we will have another demonstration of how » easy this can be done without talking on’e arm off. The sugar beet club should go over big in this county. Every lad can plant one acre and take care of it himself, making more profits than he has any idea he can unless he has tried it and also taking a chance to win one of the excellent prizes offered. South Dakota and Minnesota have • a foot of snow. Hope they keep it up there and not let any of it slip around the corners headed this way. We don't need it now. The spring so far has been ideal and if we can dodge this snow and ice, chances are we will have a spring that will start the biggest crop this section has had in years. A young lady with a bottle of nitroglycerine held up a Denver bank yesterday and tiie teller gave her five , thousand dollars worth of bills to appease her appetite for easy money. Ualess she was crazy she was probably bluffing for if she had lighted the match as she threatened she might have got messed up herself. The Font company lost seventy-two million dollars last year but Henry still has cash in bank to the amount of more than $382,000,000 so he will probably be able to withstand the slight reverse. The figures are stupendous when we stop to think them over. Not many individuals or concerns could stand a loss of that proportions in a year and think it a mere incident in business. Don't gamble in stocks. If you have some money you wish to invest in that line, base your investment on the earnings of the company and buy so that the returns based on past records should bring you a return. Roads, agricultural cluba, the proposed fall festival, a vote on the daylight savings proposition—these are a few of the subjects that will be taken up at the meeting of the Decatur Industrial Association following the banquet Monday evening. Better be there and say your say. The meeting will adjourn at eight o’clock so you may arrange any other engagements on that schedule. In front of the Evangelical church in this city there is an electric sign board from which flashes each evening a thought worth rolling around in your mind. For instance last evening we read this sentence: “Do what you can, where you are, with what you have.” This would be a grand and glorious community if we all did that and we owe it to ourselves and our neighbors always to follow that advice. If we do that we are doing all we were intended to do and if we do less we are failing. Looks as though such a howl went up following the announcement of Ed Fogarty that he had been offered the position as warden of the Pendleton reformatory that the governor may feel constrained to wiggle out of it. The whole thing sounds queer for Fogarty is a democrat and though he is admittedly the best prison man in the middle west, usually those things don’t mean much when it comes to political appointments. Watch this due up. it should be interesting. o ■ Household Scrapbook By ROBERTA LEE Ovens All ovens should be well scrubbed after cooking, with hot soda water and soap. It will be Impossible to write about all the individuals that have so freely contributed their bit. to the general welfare of their communities. Therefore, I shall* content myself In relating some incidents in the life of my congenial friend Robert Andrews better known to his many friends as (Bob) In so far as his friendship with children is Concerned perhaps it would not be casting reflections on him to say that along this line he may somewhat resemble Rip Van Winkle as children from miles around his home dearly loved him.
