Charter Member The Indiana league of Home Dallies. If the April showers continue there should be an abundance of May flowers. Charles Dawes, former vice-presi-dent. is to become ambassador to Great Britain. Since Charley is worth fifty million he no doubt needs the job and can afford it. It costs nearly five hundred dollars to capture and convict the four bank bandits and to take them to Michigan City but most tax payers will feel it was money well spent. ■ ■■ . ~ Five men held up the congregation in a Jewish synagogue at Chicago and deliberately robbed them of $75,000 in money and jewels. Now the folks will have another excuse for not attending church.
Are you interested in having daylight saving time in Deeatur or in retaining the present standard time? If so attend the meeting of the Industrial Association Monday evening and cast a vote. Much will depend upon the result of that vote for the city council will take it into consideration. If you have suggestions that you feel will help Decatur you are invited to attend the banquet to be given by the Decatur Industrial Association at the K. of C. hall next Monday evening. Perhaps you can start something that will help every one in the community. It won’t hurt to try.
The congressman who was caught with eleven quarts of European whiskey in his trunk now discovers the alibi that a friend had borrowed his trunk. When a congressman who has voted for the Jones bill loans his trunk to a friend who brings in such souvinirs he ought to be held responsible.
The White House is being repaired. Don't know what it will cost but since the job will require forty days the bill will probably be of good size. Just last year several hundred thousand dollars was spent to fix things up so the president and his family and staff could be comfortable but of course something can always be found if we look hard enough for it. The court has held that R. O. Johnson, former Decatur man has a right to hold office in Indiana and he will make a real contest for the republican nomination for mayor of Gary. His opponent is Mr. Williams, present mayor and since R. O. held the job for a number of years, the voters should be able to decide which is the best official.
If the beet acreage is secured it will have to be done during the next week or two. After that it will not help any to make suggestions or offers. It the big plant here is to be operated next autumn we must have a sufficient number of contracts to warrant it. Os course that's a. serious way to put it but its the plain facts and we might as well realize it now as a month from now when it will be too late. Step on the gas boys and lets get the acreage. The matter of the tariff is apt to give congress some of the most puzzling problems it has had to solve in years. A tariff, unfortunately, has so

Take the matter of a tariff on imports from Canada, for instance. It is now being reported reliably In Washington that if such a tariff is raised, Canada will refuse to cooperate on the building of the St. Lawrence ship canal. And while that may be a minor matter to some sections. the great middle west has its heart set on that canal —and some of its leading advocates in congress are men who ordinarily would be the staunchest of high tariff men. There are half a dozen similar quirks to the situation. A good many congressional brows are apt to be sadly creased and furrowed before the sujject is finally disposed of. — Wabash Plain Dealer. The owner of an automobile would be delighted to have a reduction of 10 per cent In his insurance costs, and this is what is being done on the part of some of the insurance companies. To earn this 10 per cent it is required that for a period of two years the license must have been neither suspended nor revoked, that the owner has not been convicted of driving while intoxicated, has not run away or evaded responsibility after an accident, that he has not been a reckless driver, that he has kept the brakes and steering gear of his car in good working condition and had them inspected at least semi-annual-ly. Not only does the motorist who complies with these requirements earn a 10 per cent reduction from the insurance people, but he has saved himself considerable sums of money in repairs, perhaps considerable cost in patching up injuries to himself or others, and he has the satisfaction of knowing that he has injured no one else and is a considerate and safe citizen.
