Certainly the necklaces are most attractive when reflecting the color of the costume with which they are worn, or when instead of reflecting the color they intensify it by an effective contrast. The committee in charge of the party, which comprise,! of Herman Lankenau, Forrest Zimmerman and Everett Sheets, served | the most delicious meal, after which the birthday of Clarence Beavers was celebrated. The regular business sesI sion was held during which the parts ' for the characters in the play, “Aunt Lucia.'’ which is to be given by the Beta Sig members, May 2 and 3, were assigned. ENTERTAINS SORORITY WITH DINNER BRIDGE Misses Naomi Durkin and Mildred Niblick were hostesses, last evening, at 6:30 o'clock, at the Durkin home on Mercer avenue, to the Delta Theta Tau Sorority. The hotne was attractively decorated with jonquils and forsythia in modernistic bowls and vases. Crystal bowls of the Spring flowers centered the small tables where dainty floral place cards marked covers for the guests. Little umbrellas of "April Shower" design furnished attractive favors for each guest. A most delicious three-course dinner was served by the hostesses. Following the dinner, a short business session was held and Miss Kathryn Hyland, president of the sorority, was elected as business delegate to the national convention of the sorority to be held at West Baden in June, and Miss Naomi Durkin was elected social delegate. The tables were then arranged for Bridge and as the result of the evening’s games, Miss Jeanette (lark; and Mrs. Harold Smith received the prizes for high score. They "ere awarded with lovely prizes wrapped in modernistic design. ENTERTAINS MONDAY NIGHT CLUB Mrs. Felix Graber was hostess, Monday evening, at her home on North Walnut street, to the members of the Monday Night club, at a delightful spring party. At 6:30 o'clock, a most delicious two course dinner was served by the hostess. Dainty floral design place cards marked covers at a large dining room table. A huge bouquet of American Beauty roses centered tho table, and each guest received a rose as a favor. The second course of the dinner was ice-cream molded in thp shape of a rose. Following the dinner, six games of bridge were played and prizes were awarded to Mrs. Herbert Kern and Mrs. Ed Boknecht. The next meeting of the club will be held in two weeks with Mrs. Herb Kern as hostess. The United Brethren Ladies Aid society will meet, with Mrs. Ollie Mills, Thursday afternoon at twothirty o’clock. Mrs. Frank Bohnke and Mfs. Harry Poling will be assistant hostesses. The C. I. C. Class of the Union Chapel Sunday school will meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Walters, Friday evening at seven-thirty o’clock. Logansport, Pennsylvania Railroad fireman, was killed here today when the door of a freight car struck his cabin in passing.

MORE CAVALRY SENT TO BORDER Patrol Force Along Mexican Line Increased; Federals Start New Drive Washington, Apr. 9. —<U.R)~A squadron of cavalry has been ordered from Fort Bliss, Tex., to Hachita, New Mexico, to protect American interests in that quarter, Major General William Lassiter informed the war department. today. He said cavalry troops from the first cavalry brigade at Fort Clark, Texas, were now on patrol duty in the vicinity of tho Pecos and Devils rivers west of Del Rio, Texas. El Paso. Tex., Apr. 9.—(U.R>—A new Mexican federal force, organized at El Porvenir, across the international line from Fort Hancock, Tex , was pushing toward Juarez today, with capture of that border point its ultimate federal (’sources reported here. The new army, composed of about, 300 men, planned first to capture Guadalupe, 40 miles east of Juarez. The federals at 9 a.m. were at San Ignatio, eight miles from Guadalupe, the advices said, and rebels were reported to have abandoned the latter town, Bering to Juarez. Reports from Juarez said General Marcelo Caiaveo, governor of Chihuahut, arrived in Juarez this morning on a special train with his staff ami detachments of cavalry and infantry. Putnam, of Fort Wayne submitted a low bid of $144,810.58 for bituminous macadam resurfacing of 7.54 miles on roads 3 and 18 in Jay and Wells counties or $101,388.18 ofr rock asphalt wearing course. The Hays construction Co., of Indianapolis also submitted a low bid of $131,706.19 for a different type of surfacing on the same project. o • Train Rider Confesses Part In Bank Robbery Cleveland, O. April 9—(UP) —His ride on the blinds interrupted by Nick el Plate railroad detectives here Homer ’’Speck" West felt sure they had something on him. He volunteered the information that he tok part in a bank robbery February 1, at Farmersburg, Indiana. Detective sergeant Arthur Simmons surprised at the information wired - the sheriff of Sulivan, county Indiana. The sheriff will call for the 23 year old man tonight. 0 Finds Housewives Walk 3 To 9 Miles Every Day Burlington, Vt., April 9 —(UP) — Housewives, in accomplishing their daily tasks, travel from 3 to 9 miles per day. This was revealed through tests made by the Extension Service of the University of Vermont and state agricultural college. The tests were conducted over a period of a week with a group of 30 women equipped with pedometers.. It was found that most of the distance was covered in the kitchen, and by rearranging and grouping equipment, the extension service reduced the milage by one half to two-thirds. o — Marriage No Joke, Texas Couple Find Lubbock, Tex., April 9 — (UP) — Marriage may be a joke to some people but to one Lubbock couple it wasn’t that at all. A petition for annulment of marriage was filed in district court here. The petition stated that the couple had been induced by friends, to marry as a joke, and that after one day of the airangement they decided that matrimony was far too serious to be taken lightly. It was said that never had the two lived as man and wife. Decision was reserved. o — I. U. To Have New Chemistry Building Bloomington. Ind., April 9 —(UP) — Indiana University is to have a new three-story chemistry building to cost $369,000. Decision for the new structure was reached at a meeting of the university board of trustees, who will advertise for bids as soon as plans and specifications are agreed upon. President Bryan announced re-ap pointmeut as trustees for three years terms of Charles M. Niezer, Frank H. Hatfield, and Ira C. Batman.

The Decatur plant of the Genet al Electric company is now operating on an overtime schedule. The factory runs nine and two-thirds hours each day, except on Saturday, when it closes at noon. The force of employees go to work at 7:20 a. nt. and closing time is at six o’clock. Extra hour work Is necessary to catch up with orders. Rev. R. W. Stoakes, pastor of the First Methodist church in this city, has returned from Logansport, where lie attended the Methodist conference. Rev. Stoakes has been returned to the local pastorate. The bonds on the Leo road in Allen county will lie sold on April 16. The firm of Macklin and Zehr of this city have the contract to build five miles of the road, the contract price being $124,969. Work on the construction of the road will start about April 20. The Catholic boys will lie given a , tine entertainment at the fathers and sons meeting to he "held Wednesday evening at the K. of C. hall. M. J. Mylott, chairman of the meeting is arranging an interesting program. A lunch will be served at 6:30 o’clock. Mrs. Theodore Oraliker and daughter Betty and Wai Wemhoff motored to Greenville, Ohio, yesterday, where they viisted with their sister, Mrs. Charles Pilliod, and called on Miss Esther Pillood, who is critically ill with complications. David Schwartz of Berne was a business visitor in this city today. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kooken, Miss Alma Kooken and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kooken of Hammond, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Adler, Sunday. A. R. Holthouse and A. R. Stuckey visited in Fort Wayne today. A. P. Swin of Huntington, while on his way to Lima, Ohio, visited with John Oswalt and son Ira, in this city. Raymond Harting who has been a patient at the Adams County Memorial hospital following an attack of illness last week, was taken yesterday afternoon, to his home on North Third street. He is improving nicely and is expected to be at his place of business, tomorrow. Several local baseball fans are planning on attending the game at Fort Wayne Wednesday afternoon between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Fort Wayne Chiefs. Miss Mary Kathryn Schug returned to Western College at Oxford. Ohio, to resume her studies after spending a week’s vacation with her parents in this city. Herman Myers of this city was a business visitor in Richmond Indiana today. Cooler weather was on the weather man's bill-of-fare for Decatur and this community today. The temperature dropped about 15 degrees. Weather forecasters say the temperature drop is only temporarily. Harold Niblick. U. S. Drummond and Earl Rex are laying the new linoleum in the county treasurer's office today The new fixtures and cabinets will be erected tomorrow and the office will be completely redecorated soon. Ed. Ashbaucher, treasurer, announced today that the work would not necessitate the closing of his office and that he would observe the regular office hours. Dave Schwartz of near Berne was a business visitor in Decatur today. Several clues concerning the robbing of the West End restaurant Saturday night are being traced down today by local police officers and it is thought that the robbers will be apprehended soon. Mrs. Dick Ehinger and mother, Mrs. J. C. Miller went to Fort Wayne today where they visited with Sain. C. Miller and family. Miss isabell Cloud and Frank DeVor visited in Monroeville, Sunday evening. COURT HOUSE Decatur Woman Seeks Divorce Margaret Jones, of Decatur, today filed a suit in circuit court for a divorce from Warren Jones. The couple were married in 1900 and separated April 6, 1929, according to the cointplaint. Seven children were born to thorn. The plaintiff alleges that the defendant Is guilty of cruel an inhuman treatment, failure to support his family, and insane jealousy. The plaintiff asks for a divorce and an allowance for the support of the minor children. The court granted a restraining order, restraining the defendant from visiting or molesting the plaintiff and her children until, further order of the court. Attorney C. L. Walters, of Decatur, is counsel for the plaintiff. Administratrix Appointed Della Harruff has been appointed administratrix In the estate of Susie E. Harruff. She filed bond in the sum of S2OO. The estate is valued at $6,100 and the heirs include three sons, two daughters and three grandchildren.
