Thousands of Dollars Rc ward Patience in ! Canada It takes all kinds of turkeys to make a farm. But it took Mrs. W. A. Freeman to find | the “key” in tur-key. Here’s; how it all happened: Once upon a time there was a t>lg, big raffle. Mrs. Freeman drew the lucky number and a pair of the finest bronze turkeys you have, or haven’t ever seen. She took them to I her home at Ardenode, a 24-mllei stone's throw from Calgary. Canada. | and for awhile they were very, very I happy. But, alas, they realized that their lives were quite empty, until one day Mrs. Turkey had a nice flock of youngsters running about her. After that Fop and Mom Turkey settled down to a life of quiet domesticity. adding continuously to the number of their offspring, who In turn —well, you know how history repeats Itself. As a result of all this, the smiling little lady, known as “Canada’s 1 Turkey Queen.” has developed quite an establishment; in fact, she expects this year that the personnel of her farm will reach a total of 1 000 birds. Incidentally. Mrs. Freemans husband owns a farm of no mean proportions, so that raising turkeys Is just a side line with her, “to get a little pin money.” This

Beer Consuming Oft’ In Germany Since 1911 Berlin. March 29—< UP)— Although Germany is by no means, a "dry" country, the German beer c msumption hay decreased considerably during the pad ten or fifteen years. While in 1914 the average German citizen consumed little more than 100 litres of beer annually only 80.8 litres were consumed per capita in the last year. It is believed that the decrease was largely due to higher taxes on beer and liquor. During 1914 the Reich tax for 4 hec-to-litre of beer was 3.30 mark*, while the community excise amounted to 0.05 marks; in 1928, the taxes were raised to 7:30 and 2.25 marks respectively. 0 1 Pedagogical Term The method of teaching reading whereby the child is taught his letters first and then words alphebetically and phonetically Is called the “alphabetic method."
