Don't get excited about the spring weather. Its early yet and we are more apt to have some bad breaks than we are good ones. Its two weeks to April showers and then a month to the May flowers. Business has a snappy tone over the country and there is every indication that the merchants who carry popular lines and advertise them, will do a very satisfactory business this year. There is no good excuse for you not doing both. Are you reading our local columns? If not you are missing some real news for after all its more important what the folks at home are doing than it is how many were killed in the Mexican insurrection. Send ns in a few items and help make it bigger and better. Coach Laurent and his Commodores are in Chicago where they play their first game tonight, opposing Portsmouth, Ohio. Needless to say we are all pulling for them in this apd the rest of the games. The boys are in fine trim and ready to give any club they meet a real fight. North Ninth street will get ornamental lights under a petition filed by property owners, a mighty fine thing for them and for every oue else in this community. This is the best lighted city of 6,000 in the middle west and the good work goes on. A plan for increasing the membership of the Decatur Country dub is now being worked out. When announced it should have the genuine support of those who are now members and of every one else who wish the golf course kept up and such a place certainly adds to attractions of any city. Be a booster. Eventually every residence in Decatur must have a fireproof roof, according to an ordinance adopted by the city council. The step is one of those required in order to secure a lower basic insurance rate and it is a sensible one any way. It not only protects these properties against sparks from the chimney or adjacent fires, but it reduces your insurance rate ten cents on the SIOO. The surprising thing developing in the investigations following the last hold-up of the Linn Grove bank is the class of men engaged in it. They all seem to be men from excellent families, holding responsible positions or in business, men of mature years who must have known that eventually they would have to pay. Its a game that can't be beaten. You may win for a time but when the tide changes and you are caught, remember you are out for the rest of the game. Because of a conflict between the house and senate in the legislature the bill providing for a vote on the proposed income tax did not contain a definite plan for the presentation of the matter to the voters, so it has lieen called off. The voters will be spared a lot of trouble and taxpayers will save an important, sum. The income fax has been defeated twice in this state, most people evidently feeling that they will not knowingly vote additional taxes.
I ' ’ TODAY’S CHUCKLE Staunton, 111., — (UP) — John Rahu, a coal miner, has filed claim with an insurance company for a * tire cover consumed by a goat. 11 Biihu mistakenly parked his automobile near the animal. * I , Both the light and the water plant I in Decatur showed a net earning for * last year according to the annual reI ports filed by Superintendents Mylott 1 and Harruff. That's a line showing I ! and one that should not be overlooked for it is necessary that these operate at a profit. Please remember also that in doing that we have lower rates than most cities aud there has been a consistent reduction of the light and power rate as the receipts have grown. Tire city is in a splendid financial condition and those in charge deserve commendation. Police officials in northwestern Indiana have done excellent work in running down the Linn Grove bank robbers and we would not take an iota of credit from any of them but we also call your attention to the fact that Sheriff Hollingsworth was right on the job all the time and served as the consistent keep-everlastingly-at-it man. When “Spot” starts after them and has a clue you may expect him to bring them into court. On this case he and Dectective Huntington certainly did work deserving of the greatest praise. o *«*¥¥*<r**«*** ♦ BIG FEATURES * * OF RADIO * X ¥ ¥ ¥ ¥ ¥■¥¥♦••♦ 8 Thursday's Five Best Radio Features Copyright 1929 by The United Press (Central Standard Time Troiighout.) Bake in the skin for 15 or 20 minutes, until soft and then burst the skin. Remove from the skin and lay in a baking pan with very littel water. Dust sugar over top and sprinkle with lemon juice. Brooms The next time a new broom is purchased, try using both sides of it equally. This will greatly prolong its usefulness. Then the straws will not assume the curved shape so often experienced. Deep-Seated Rheumatic Pains Quickly Yields to Powerful Penetrating Oil Probably no affliction is more common or responsible for more intense suffering than rheumatism. Thousands of otherwise robust persons drag through a life of misery and agony. Here is a new treatment. Simply get a bottle of Moone's Emerald Oil, and apply to the affectied parts. It's easy and pleasant to use and there is no doubt but what the most stubborn and severe cases yield quickly to its powerful, penetrating influence. The first application brings blessed relief. To be sure, not much is said openly about skin eruptions, but secretly they influence many important affairs. Personal likes and dislikes are quickly formed. Everybody wants to be attractive. It is a just and natural ambition. A clear skin makes everyone more attractive. Skilled physicians recognize tho appearance of pimples, boils, eczema and other skin eruptions as being an indication that the body s power of resistance is low—that there is a deficiency of red-blood- , ( cells.
