The St. Marys Township Home Economics Club will hold an all day meeting, Friday, with Mrs. Otis Shifferly. All members are requested to meet at the Post Office at Pleasant Mills at ten o clock, and cars will be provided for taking all members to the Shifferly home. The first lesson will be given at this time. Mrs. Herman Myers and Miss Mary Suttles will be hostesses, Thursday evening to the Dinner Bridge Club at the home of the latter on South Fifth street, at 6:30 o’clock. The Ixiyal Daughters class of the Evangelical Sunday school will meet Thursday evening at seven-thirty o'clock with Mrs. Harry Stauffer on Seventh street. All members are requested to be present. The Ladies Aid Society of the Presbyterian church will meet Thursday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock with Mis- Charles Langston, on Third street. The Tri Kappa Sorority will meet with Miss Ruth Engle, Tuesday evening ajt eight o’clock. Glenn Beavers, student at Ohio State university, is home visiting for several days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Beavers. The Dorcas class of the Evangelical Sunday school, which was to have met Tuesday evening, lias been postponed unti) further notice. 1 Tile Ladies Aid Society of the First ' Methodist church will hold their annual election of officers, Friday afternoon, at 2:30 o’clock, in the church parlors. A pot-luck supper will follow \ the meeting at 6:30 o'clock. All Aid society members and their families j are invited to attend the supper. Meat, rolls, coffee and cream will be furnished by the committee in charge, and each niember is asked to bring one other dish in accordance witli the size of her family. Personal Coach and Mrs. H. L- Curtis returned Sunday evening from Indianapolli where they attended the state highschool basketball tournament and visited relatives over the week-end. Ralph Tyndall of Bluffton visited over Sunday with his parents Mr. and Mrs. j. w Tyndall in Decatur. William Heim and Fred Bosse of this city were among those who attended the Saturday sessions of the state high school basketball tournament at Indianapolis. Coach Max Kidd returned to this city Sunday night after attending the state basketbal tourney at Indianapolls Friday and Saturday. Mrs. Kidd who accompanied Mr. Kidd to Indianapolis went on to her former home at Bloomfield where she will visit relatives a few days B. F. Roller and C. O Porter of this city will motor to Indianapolis tomorrow to attend to business. Coach George Laurent of Decatur Catholic high school Commodores returned Sunday from Indianapolis where he attened the state basketball tourney. Harold Daniel, linotype operator of the Decatur Democrat visited Sunday in Fort Wayne Mrs. Daniel remained in Fort Wayne to visit with her parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred King and daughter Kathryn visited in Celina yesterday. Francis Howard barber at the Rice hotel is relief driving for the A. B. C bus line between Decatur and Fort Wayne today, Mr. Howard has been relief driver for that concern for several weeks. Vincent Smith of this city visited in Fort Wayne over the week-end. Felix Maier of this city returned this morning after spending the weekend in Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. While in Indianapolis. Mr Maier attended the state basketball tourney. Work started this morning on the golf course of the Decatur Country Club. New grass is being planted and the rough spots on the fairways are being iblled out. Manager Bernard Clark has asked that players remain off the course for the liext week or tw ) in order that the new grass will sprout. Muri Lybarger and Floyd Yahney of Linn Grove visited in this city yesterday. Mr. Lybarger was among those who identified Robert SinnKf as one of the men who held up and robbed the Bank of Linn Grove last ThursdayForest Huntington, of the Indiana Bureau of Criminal Identification, who has been assisting Sheriff Harl Hollingsworth and other officials in the hank robbery capture will return this afternoon to his home at L'idianapolis. Mrs. Mary Miller and daughter. Marjorie, visited her brother faster Erhart and family in Bluffton yesterday. Bert Harruff, of San Barnardino, California, is here because of the serious illness of his mother, Mrs. S. EHaruff, south Fifth street. Mr. Haruff is general foreman at the mills of the Southeastrn Cement Company. went to Dayton, Ohio this afternoon to visit a plant the company has there and will return here Thursday. He plans to return to California by the first of May. Miss Kathryn Hyland and Otto Wise motored to Fort Wayne, Sunday evening, where they witnessed the production at the Emboyd TheatreMiss Isabell Cloud and Frank DeVot visited in Fort Wayne Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Malissa Barkley, who is visiting several weeks with her son, Orley Barkley, near Monroeville, since breaking her arm Jfast Wednesday, spent the day in this city. E. M Ray of Berne was looking after business matters here this morning. Special services preparatory to Easter Sunday will be held each evening this week and next and the public is cordially invited. Forrest Zimmerman motored to Fort Wayne, Sunday evening, accompanied by Miss Jane Wilson, who visited over the week-end in this city, the guest of Miss Isabell Hower. Mr. and Mrs. W- O. Smith, and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Smith and family of F rt Wayne, visited with Mr. and Mrs Fred Hammond and family Sunday. Miss Naomi Durkin visited over the week-end with Indianapolis friends. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Lose of Fort Wayne visited in the city Sunday with relatives. Mr and Mrs. Frank Schmitz and children motored to Columbia City where they spent Sunday with the Henry Schmitt family. A raid from Mr. and Mrs. I. Bernstein who are enjoying the delights of California, states they are going to the Catalina Islands this week. John Carmody returned today from Chicago where he looked after business matters. Mrs. James Sowan and children are visiting in Trledo with friends and relatives. Rev. Leo Sheet® of Garret, will deliver the fifth of a series of Lenten sermqns at the St. Marys Catholic church Tuesday evening. Many visitors are expected to attend Hie program to be giveu by the Decatur Advertising Association. The program starts at 1:15 o'clock with a baud concert. Albert Fuller of Detroit is visiting in the city and looking after ids farm in St. Marys t iwnship. Mr. Fuller is a former Adams county resident. He states that Detroit is going full blast and that the Ford plant is now employing 128,000 persons in the Detroit area. Last Thursday 8006 new Fords were turned out.
The townships assessors met last' Saturday with County Assessor Jay Cline at Geneva. Reports were turned in by the assessors and comparisons made. Mr. Cline stated that the assessments on farming implements, farm machinery and automobiles were a little below the average of last year hut that the other assessments were in keeping with the values of u year ago Next Saturday the assessors will meet at Berne. Work on installing the new metal counters and furniture In the county treasurer's office will start on April 4, Ed Ashbaucher, county treasurer stated this morning Tim work will be Installed by the Kiger-Burnett company of Indianapolis, low bidders on the job. The new counters will make it more convenient for the county treasurer and Ills assistants to wait on the taxpayers. Several thousand dollars has been paid on spring installment of taxes, Ed Ashbnueher, county treasurer, stated this morning. Monday, May 6 is the last day to pay the May taxes without 10 per cent penalty. The work of making out the tax receipts was completed last week. About 11,000 receipts were made out. Ross Jr., is a student at DePauw University He suffered an attack of flu from which lie never fully recovered ami is believed to have suffered a relapse. If he is able to with stand the trip,, he will return to his home in this city with ids parents. Miss Amelia Koenig and Donald Braun spent Sunday afternoon in Fort Wayne. Harry Meshberger of Linn Grove called on Decatur friends. He says the outlook for a good stone season is very good and the Linn Grove plant is leady to meet every requirement Dick Archbold cf Indianapolis, stopped here a couple of hours, Sunday afternoon to say hello to his dad and mother.. Charles Harkless, of Monmouth, entertained with a most delicious noonday dinner, Sunday. The long table was centered by a huge white birthday cake and covers were laid for twenty friends and relatives from Decatur, Fort Wayne, and Poe. The Alpha Zeta Bridge Club will meet with Mrs. Bernard Loshe, Wednesday evening at seven-thirty o'clock —— o Young Woman Challenges Air Supremacy Os Men San Francisco, Mar. 18.-;U.PJ—Su-premacy of Hie air, held by men since the Wright Brothers made the first flight 25 years ago was challenged today by a young woman who remained aloft alone for more than 22 hours. Mrs. Louise McPhetridge Thaden, 23. new holder of the world's endurance flight record for feminine pilots, claimed today the time would soon come when women would threaten flight records of men. Mrs. Thaden landed her Travelair biplane at Oakland airport at 1:54 p. m. Sunday to conclude a solo flight or 22 hours, three minutes and 12 seconds. She was not satisfied and said that with an ample supply of fuel she could have remained up 13 hours longer to equal the men's endurance record.
