Those who listened to the inaugural ceremonies over the radio were impressed with the simplicity of tlie occasion, hut as Americans we appreciated the solemnity of the event and listened attentively to the ceremoney. The bill is designed to raise revenue, it being estimated that at ’east a half million dollars will he obtained from the state tax. It seems that state finances are in a terrible shape and every means sf trying to raise revenue is being resorted to. Under the terms of the bill a basic ;< e of $2 would be collected uuuually by the state tax board on each retail jstablishmeut in tire state beginning July 1. Thu late on multiple stores under die same management would be as follows: From 2 to 5 stores $lO each tor each additional store; for 6 to 10 stores $25 for each additional; 11 to 20 stores SSO for each additional; 21 to 40 stores $75 for each additional, and for chains of more than 40 stores $l5O for each additional store. A filing fee of 50 cents would be ■barged on each application for a license. As we understand the bill 110 busness is exempt and the collecting of lie tax will mean another army of jmployes, going about from one busttess to another asking if the ownerstave paid the tax.
