The 1929 session of the legislature will convene tomorrow with every indication that it will be a lively one. The democrats cannot force through any laws but they may prevent some bills from being enacted. Now with the air fuelling of planes successful it Is predicted that Bights from New York to San Francisco will soon be made in twenty-four hours and regular mail service inaugurated at that speed. Old Question Mark finally landed out in California after breaking about every record known for heavier than air crafts. No doubt this record will eventually lie broken but its a right decent goal to shoot at. 151 hours. Mr. Hoover can be “high and mighty" now witlt the politicians regarding cabinet appointments but he will be humble enough in two or three years if he likes the job us president and decides to try for it again. The way to really put Adams county on tht' map is to put her on good roads and that seems to be the spirit in every township and among the folks for state roads. In the years to come the wisdom of the work now being done will be realized more than now. The business man who starts the year off with a determination to advertise more, to wotk harder to serve the public, to show more progress in every way than in the past, is the one who will see his business grow and prosper and have a larger net profit when he completes his invoice next December. This was the busy ilay around the hotels in Indianapolis tor the republican clans have gathered there for the caucus to be he’d tonight when the organization for the legislative session will be made. As usual there is a grand rush and a big scrap. Savings tlie nation is a great business until we learn there is more or less bunk to it all. A bunch of bootleggers got caught in a squall on Lake Erie and were adrift fifteen days. Asked why they didn't use some of the liquor to keep from freezing, they replied they were afraid of poison. The cargo was some of that fifteen dollars a quart “bottled in bond” that so many fight for.

Governor Jackson is to I*- given a linal smack next Tuesday when Hany Leslie is inaugurated. For the first time in the history of the state the retiring governor will not lie permitted to recount the achievements of his administration. So far lie' has not even been provided for on the stage lint it is likely that on the grounds USING INVISIBLE ZEMO In a surprisingly short time, such skin t roubles as pimples, itching rash and blemishes vanish—theskin clears —when soothing, cooling Zemo is used. TODAY’S CHUCKLE Seattle —(UP)—B. Ti'Jl. hotel keeper told police he had tried to stop a tigllit between two of his hotel giMMta who were drinking liquor in their rorni. But the fighters turned on him, robbed him of $9, and fled.

tlpit he will attract less attention on than off, he may be permitted to watch the proceedure of his own passing. The statute of limitations seems to have run again. Adams county will get two thous-

and dollars more than Wells county in the distribution of state school funds, *4,000 more than Blackford and |6OO more than Jay county and the fund is distributed on the basis of the school enumeration. In other words we have mure children of school age than any of these neighboring counties. ■

Renew your ♦ subscription to the Daily Democrat. You want a lively newspaper in your community. We wish to give it to you. if we cooperate both will be better served. The coming year promises many events of interest to you, there is much to fight for, many things to support you in. That's our ambition. The very first thing to do is to- get our list "all paid up” once again. Berne is getting to be a regular place and can even boast of having had a woman bootlegger just like Gary, Fort Wayne, Muncie and the other Industrial centers. She was caught however, admitted her guilt and convicted iu circuit court within twenty-four hours which shows it is not a very safe place for that kind of business.

There is every indication that whatever el f se may be doing in Adams county this year, there will be plenty of road building. Petitions were tiled yesterday for fourteen macadam improvements and three concrete highways. This will mean the expenditure of several hundred thousand dollars tor most of the petitions will no doubt be granted. It will mean plenty of work, permanent improvements and a better community. Os course it all costs money but keeping it in circulation is what has made this the greatest nation iu.the world. Hon. Jobu E. Frederick of Kokomo is a fighter. He has been iu politics some years, was a candidate for United States senator in 1928 and for the nomination for governor in 1928. Now he is booked for several speeches in Indiana the next few weeks and is assuming the leadership of the democratic party. He will address a ban-, quet at Terra Haute tomorrow evening and his discussion of the issues and the future will be awaited by the six hundred thousand democrats of Indiana with keen interest. Mr. Fredricks is a successful business man and manufacturer, an able speaker and a sound thinker and the party could do worse than follow his leadership. To be sure every business man strives to make a profit. Profit is the badge of service. Dollars are the inFlu Epidemic Is Creating Record Demand For Vicks

375,000 Jars Every 21 Hours Needed to Keep the Nation Supplied with Vapo-Salve Ehl Milder But Widespread That the public has not forgotten the lesson of 1918 is indicated by its prompt, response to the warning of health authorities to combat the flu by keeping free from colds. The demand tor Vicks Vapollub, the vaporizing salve which proved so valuable during the 19-18 epidemic, lias already shattered by a wide margin all previous records. Although the capacity of the Vicks laboratories has been tripled since 1918, they are once move operating night, shifts to meet the national emergency. The present output of mortr than 376,000 jars a day almost staggers the imagination. It means that every 60 seconds, day and night over 2,600 of Vick* are going out to check the nation’s colds and help ward off the flu. "Caveat emptor," the one-time slogan of the trade world, has become so obsolete that millions do not-even know what It means. ness of thought and action are a weak mans' argument. The weapon of the avenger has no place in his life He strives to be a constructive force in the Community. He must be a doer as well as a thinker. A mere desire to serve gets him nowhere. He actually must serve. Carnegie, Schwab, Edison, Wauamaker —all their names suggest action. The demand of business is to keep ahead of competition —to do something and do it first and profitably. After all. this is only another form of service-giving the public something better than the other fellow is offering and at a smaller price, where possible.

THREE MORE DAYS OF FUN FOR YOU An Extra Suit Or Overcoat

People Couldn’t Get Waited On Saturday Due to the fact that there was such a crowd in town last Saturday—it was impossible for everybody to get waited on in here at this great sale. The weather was bad and farmers had to get home to do their chores and could not wait their turn to buy. A great deal of sorrow has been expressed this week and in order to give everybody in the county a fair and equal chance we have decided to hold this great Sale THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND SATURDAY OF THIS WEEK.

This Sale is Unusual

If you’re not familiar how this is done here is the explanation. You buy one garment at the regular price and for one dollar extra you can pick out another suit or overcoat of the same value. For instance, buy a $21.50 suit and pick out a $21.50 overcoat—we charge you $25.50 for the two of'Them. In reality, vou buv each garment for sl2.7s—the price of a boy’s suit. Two fellows can come in and divide the cost—an excellent opportunity for father and son to get outfitted at our expense. We charge our loss to advertising.
