The Good Fellows club fund has passed the two hundred mark and is now well started on its way. Help put it over. A dollar a week in a Christmas club will give you t'iftv for next years Christmas shopping ait 1 the interest for a few knick-knacks besides. Won't that be fine? Start it right away so you won t be benind the rest of them. The Christmas buying rush is on the smiles again and cheery words heard in the stories seem to indicate the folks like it. You can still secure attractive bargains and the finest goods in the various stores of this city. Head the advertisements, visit the stores and profit by doing it. The poor children of the community will soon know who the Good Fellows are. Its those who wish them all io have a Merry Christmas Its alright to call the seasons greetings to those • you meet but its more sincere to really help make it the happiest time of the year for every one. We believe the laud owners on the Spuller road will complete the work of securing signers on the easements in time to permit the state highway commission to include it in their program for next year, which would be wonderful for every one. If they do every citizen of the county owes them their sincere gratitude. One of the great tobacco companies has announced appropriations totalling $12.000,000 for the next year with which to put over a new brand of cigarettes They will accomplish it too for there is nothing to stop the sale of an article well advertised. This company knows from experience that is so for they have already increased their volume of business several times through that medium. Paraguay and Bolivia will probably get their difficulties ironed out so that every one down there can enjoy Christmas Without thoughts of the sadness sure to follow in the wake of a war. It would certainly be foolish for them to thus engage when a little give and take on either side would prevent the bloodshed and the terrific expense that must be paid eventually if not right away.
Attention is called to the danger of double parking which has again become so numerous as to attract attention. Several near accidents have been reported and it is said that there is danger of losing the state highways through tile central part of the city unless this is handled in some way. We know its a serious proposition and a tough one to handle but other towns and cities do it and there should be some method that would take care of tiie situation. Efforts will be made to tevive the absent voteis ballot and there is now much discussion about it. We believe there should be such a law for those who must be absent from home, on election day and it would be fine if it. could be so aranged that the ill and infirm could vote without going to the pollfl but there is also no doubt that the previous law was sadly abused atid that feature should not be again put in the law, unless some pro-

Bluffton folks are eluted over the prosopcts for a Chicago company taking over the Bay piano factory buildings and occupying them in the maim facture of some wood working product. Representatives have already luud $15,000 on the deal ami expect to conclude arangements so the factory will reopen March Ist. It all looks good and we hope it happens even better than anticipations. That community has had some rough knocks and deserves a better turn of the
cards o’, fate. We are sure they will have it soon. Thousands of friends over Indiana mourn the death of Colonel Winfield T. Durbin of Anderson for he was admil ed and resected by men and women of every political party. He served as governor of Indiana from 1901 to 1905 and his record was clean and progressive. He was a soldier with a worth while record, having served in both the Civil and the SpanishAmerican conflicts. As a citizen of his commifnity he was a leader and his advice and his help were always sought. For many years he was one of the leading figures in Indiana politics. Tliis is the calendar season and in each mail we receive one. They come from every line and in varied style, size, shape and color, but we miss the one which was popular some years ago when we can remember how we looked for the new one. The old fashioned calendar was made of thick cardboard, embossed in floral designs, properly advertising the giver. Its real characteristic was a collapsible pocket at the bottom which served throughout the year as a recepticle for the comb and brush aud a lot of other household odds and ends and its capacity seemed endless. Bet a lot of you folks remember them. Il has just been discovered that Charles Warner, for sixty years a painter and paper hanger in Saratoga Springs, New York, is a woman. She did a mans work and did it well, according to those for whom she had labored and her ouly explanation is

Tim National Manufacturers Association has launched a movemeal to take politics out of the tariff or the tariff out of politics which ever way you prefer It, but goodness gracious that will never do. Don't you remember that a few weeks ago when Gov
eruor Al Smith, democratic candidate for president, declared that the thing to do that Mr. Hoover and others Im mediately came back with the statement that it was utterly foolish and impossible? Os course the tariff should be taken out of polities but no administration supported by Republican politicians will ever do it for thats the bread ticket for them during campaigns. Ils the fellows who desire favors on the tariff schedule who keep, the big machine running so smoothly and don't imagine Senator Watson crowd will ever purposely pass it up and Jim is to be leader of the senate.
