The turkey that is gobbling today is no doubt as thankful as any of us. It was a great old day and every body enjoyed the most of it so far as we have learned. Very unusual for a grand jury to adjourn without returning a single indictment. Perhaps we are better than most folks believe us Tire Red Cross chapter of Adams county need a few more memlrerships to bring their quota up to requirements. Come on iu. —1»- - 1 111 1 AU previous records were broken at Fort Wayne Wednesday when marriage licenses were issued to thirtyfive couples. Some sense to that kind of a contest. While the menibeiship drive for Red Cross members closed Wednesday. you can still join and it is hoped that at least a hundred and seventyone more will do so, thus bringing the membership for Adams county up to her quota of 1,000. Governor-elect Leslie will not announce his secretary until he takes office but its quite probable that the man who is to land the job will have some inkling of it. The others who hope for it may be in hot water however. Now really does come the time for the early Christmas shopper. Its less than a month until Santa Clause time anil its so foolish to put off to the last minute the selection of your gifts. Plan to start at once and keep at it until the job is out of the way. Saves trouble for you and the store glerks. It is to be hoped that every one called upon to assist in the work of securing better state roads in this county, will respond. This should be a matter of interest to every one for it means better highways over which to travel, les upkeep for the county, a step ahead that should by no means be overlooked. The fact that plans are now being made to postpone action on the farm relief measure is not as encouraging as had been hoped for by many. Whatever they propose doing should be done by congress at once so that the benefits would come next year. Why put it off another year, which delay in tiie coming session probably means. Governor and Mrs. Trumble of Hart-' fort, Connecticut, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Florence to Mr. John Coolidge, son of President and Mrs. Calvin Coolidge, so that all others who have had an eye on the silent son of a silent dad, may as well cast their glances elsewhere. The wedding will take place next summer. Thanksgiving, always a happy holiday was duly observed in this city and county. There were special church services, reunions, family dinners and the usual visiting. Indications arc that every body was thankful for the millions of blessings that have come during the year. What a difference between today and that first Thanksgiving day more than three hundred years ago? Perhaps our

That's splendid aa tar as it goes but of course this trip alone cannot do what the president-elect has in mind to do. It will help of course and is a good start hut the real good will come if congress and others in charge of this government, will cooperate in this movement to bring into closer relationship the people of all the countries of the western hemisphere A Denver policeman was injured and taken to a hospital. There he fell into the hands of a nurse who was once his sweetheart. She wrote a note telling him how she loved him and that she had waited five years for the chance to prevent him from living with any other woman, then shot him to death and turned the gun on herself. Believe some one said there is no fury like a woman's scorned or something to that effect. Mrs. Ruth Owens of Miami, Florida has a contest on her hands. She was elected to congress in the recent election but her opponent. William Lawson of Orlando is crying, "no fair" and will demand a recount and then probably appeal to congress. Mrs. Owens is a daughter of the late William Jennings Bryan and is quite likely a fighter who will see it through. Lawson thinks perhaps this is his one and only chance to crowd into th< halls of congress and will play it as hard as he can. The congress of the United States will reopen next Monday for the short term and there will be plenty of action
