Broadway Comedy Success for Festival Ernest Misner Heads New Cast of Players in “New , Brooms”—Third Night. ■ - — - ■ ■ —■ -—■ - II ' - ■■ fUwr'WMi i -'W w ill 1 k ■ HEHEI 7 - X . - <<?, V <'■ "■ ■' ■:■■■■■■■■■■■■. ■ Scene from “New Brooms” “It’s a wise father who knows as much as his own son.” —at any rate that is what Tom Bates, Senior, tells his son in Frank Cravens four-aet comedy success, “New Brooms,” which is to be presented here on the Third , Night of the coming Interstate Festival. “NEW BROOMS” ran for a solid year at the Fulton Theatre. New York, and followed this with a record breaking engagement of six months at the Blackstone Theatre, Chicago. It was acclaimed by press and public everywhere as even jollier and funnier than “The First Year,” by the same author, and at the same time just as true to life in its comic and pathetic phases. Ernest R. Misner, noted character actor, and nationally known dramatic coach and producer, heads an exceptionally strong cast. “China —A Vision or a Nightmare” Sfcm Grathwell, Distinguished Lecturer, to Tell of His Recent Thrilling Experiences in China’s Civil War. _

Sam Grathwell, one of the most popular and colorful of public speakers, has just recently returned from the Orient, and will lecture here on the Second Night of the coming Festival on his “behind the scenes” experiences with the Northern and Southern Armies in chaotic China. “Grat liwell is the only man I have heard who seems to know ‘what all the shootin’s for’ in China,” wrote an enthusiastic hearer sometime ago. The famous Grathwell humor finds expression throughout his array of most surprising and Interesting facts. Born In the Cincinnati tenements, the background of Mr. Grathwell’s f career is one of poverty and struggle. Today he is recognized as a celebrity in the lecture field—always popular, entertaining and forceful —possibly best known in the past by his platform classics “Getting By Your Hoodoo,” and “The Challenge of Young America.” ..»•-- » ■ —

Jay Tobias—the funniest man since Bill Nye. * Everything that Jay Tobias does is funny. He has a wide reputation as * leader in clean, original fun and humor. It is extremely difficult to describe the work of this young genius. Soma would cull him an entertainer, or perhaps a humorist. These terms are not apt for Tobias is so much more than that. His fun is uproarious. He draws his characterizations with wide sweeps. He is a comedian—the kind that stops the show and takes encore after encore. There is nothing rough or coarse in his work. Underneath all his humor there is a stream of fine understanding. It’s a real JOY NIGHT program. With Tobias is a talented group of young ladies. They play, sing, do sketches, stunts —in other words present | a clean, snappy, modern Revue —a type of entertainment immensely popular at the present time. Closing Night of Festival—JOY NIGHT. -.- — . - -■* -■ - - -* •• ■ *’*’* •-——* •— — |
