YANKEES VISIT GOV. St SMITH By Max Buckingham (United Press Staff Correspondent) New York. Oct. 11 (U.R)~The victorious Yankees, having finished with their World Series ami political amenities, made plans today for a barnstorm ing tour by which they may add to the small fortunes they won by playing in the World Series. The world series activities for the Yankees ended with two victories over the Cardinals of St. Louis in New York and two more in St. Louis. The political activities ended with a most colorful visit to Governor Alfred E. Smith at his hotel headquarters last night. it was a typical greeting between Smith and the most famous of the Yankees, Babe Huth. NET SEASON TO OPEN ON FRIDAY The lid will he pi led'off the 1928-29 basket bull season in Adams county next Friday night when the Kirkland Jefferson high school teams swing Into action at Berne. The first and second teams from the two schools will clash, the seconds starting their game at 7 o'clock. Jefferson originally had u game scheduled with Monmouth for Friday night, but Monmouth cancelled the contest and the Kirkland Kangaroos were obtained Io fill the date. Neither coach has had much opportunity to judge their players and the game Friday night will give them a chance to try out the various candidates. Kirkland, winner of the sectional tourney hen 1 last year, has only two members of last year's team back in school, namely Meyer ami Luther Arnold. However, several sophomores are looking good.
