Six davs of feasting and festivities to say nothing of the joy of swapping lies I[h a1 Bttrdg. Sam Peoples. John Va«er and others of the old guard. Os course the town isn’t what it used t 0 be Well, naturally. This is a world . change. The old swimmin’ hole was hard to find; Shackley’s factory, here we kids used to Play circus on the I sawdust pile, is no more; and covered bridge, the old ashery. the dam at Harfs mill and the mill itself have all disappeared. Peace to their ashes. But vou now have fine buildings, beautlfnliy shaded streets, paved highways factories, and all the adjuncts of a modern city. And. speaking of trees, just fancy if sugar maples had been planted instead of the soft variety. You would now probably have a maple sugar instead of beet sugar factory to brag about. The pageant? Oh, perfectly beautiful. A real artistic achievement, The fact that the orchestra was cunningly placed so that it obstructed the view of a considerable part of the audience was so small a fly in the ointment that 1 hate to even mention it. You will surely fix up that natural amphitheatre as a permanent place for all sorts of outdoor spectacles. But it would likely be much better to turn it around, placing the seats on the rising ground to the south, and the stage and background to the north. Well, it's merely a suggestion. Another thing. Why hasn't it occurred to the city fathers or some philanthropist to make a park along the St. Marys river? A strip of land on either side with those patriarchal trees that border its banks, and you have it almost ready made. 1 can’t, think of anything that would add more charm to the city. Perhaps it isn’t too late yet. Well, anyway it’s a darn good town to live in. I got a gallon of cider for twenty cents; a man named Keller fixed my watch for nothing, and my sister from Wichita drew a costly silver set at the Creamery doings. Who says there is no Santa Claus and that cue of his favorite haunts in not good old Adams County?
