Out on the stump for the first time since he received the Republican presidential nomination and really for the first time In his life, Hoover came to southern California for an important prepared speech and a hurry-up visit to six cities. Never before has Hoover lieen a candidate for public office, so he looked forward with considerable interest to his first day out. x The candidate will be in Santa Barbara for a tour of the missions; Glendale for a ten minute reception; Los Angeles, for a speech on the much-discussed Boulder Dani issue; Long Beach for the Pacific southwest exposition and the lowa Society picnic; Pasadena for a brief talk at the station and San Bernardino for a tdfi minute station reception. O r— —— _ North Carolina Is Recovering From Floods Raleigh, N.C., Aug. 17.—(INS)-With the loss of six lives and property damage estimated at millions of dollars, North Carolina today was recovering from floods and storms which have swept the state during the past few days. Two persons were killed in a tornado whiah struck Ashley Heights near Southern Pines, yesterday and four others have died as the result of drowning in streams in Western, i North Carolina. o Hearing Set For Tonight. BANK CASHIER - DROWNS SEIF Goshen, Ind., Aug. 17—(INS) State bank examiners were expected to arrive at Millersburg, near here, today, to make an audit of the Millersburg State Bank following the suicide late yesterday afternoon of Harry A. Beck, 38, cashier of the bank. The l>ank was not opened this morning. Its officials stated that titty were confident that there was no shortage but decided upon the closing to make a complete investigation. Beck’s suicide was attributed to the statements made by Roy A. Sample, 40. arrested yesterday at Noblesville, Ind., on a charge of obtaining $2,600 from the Millersburg bank under false pretenses. When Sample was returned to Goshen he said that the money hail been loaned to him to finance rum running expeditions and that it was lost when he was arrested and fined heavily in Michigan.
