at the "Old Home Week” in Decatur, September loth to 15th. next. 1 am far away from the home town, and homo folk of Decatur, Indiana. 8,000 miles away. Mountains, deserts, and great livers separate us. But the mind Hies back regardless of miles and mountains. If we want to gather up all tender memories, all lights and shadows of the heart, all reunions, ull filial and fraternal and paternal affections, ami had just four letters with which to spell out our meaning, we would write it out with four capitals H-O-M-E - It will not be possible for me to enjoy the happy days of this "Home Week” tn person, at Decatur, but In thought and well wishes I will be right there. The Sistine Madonna at Dresden in some respects is the most most wonderful picture of Maternal love which exists in the world. Tor a long time it was merely a dark worn only face,. An artist In making some repairs, discovered a cherub's face in the grime of that dark back ground and being led to suspect that the picture had been overlaid by time and neglect, commenced cleaning it. As he went on cherub after cherub appeared, until It was found that the Madonna was on a background made up wholly of little heavenly cherubs. So we may have in the galleries of our mind a picture, a picture of passing beauty and sweetness, Time has shadowed it, partly bscuring it. Memory turns on tha light, we begin.to rub it up, the face of that dear one, then another, another, and many others come out clearly to greet us, Those whom we have loved within our own home, in other homes, in church, city and country, with whom we have toiled, and had sweet fellowship, and in -cur hearts we say, as we scan the picture, yest that is home.
DECATUR DAILY DEMOCRAT THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 1928.
For nearly 30 years I called Decatur my home, It will always be my home , town. There are too many there whom I love, to have it any thing else. The poet has said: "The world hath its delights, And its delusions too. But home to calmer bliss Invites More Tranquil* and more true tlfes Charities like light Spread Smilingly afar— But Stars approached become more bright. I And home is life’s own star. The Pilgrim's step In vain Seeks Eden's sacred ground But in home's holy joys again An Eden may be found. Kindly accept my regrets that I can not be present at this happy home coming. Also my best wishes, and heartfelt appreciation of your remembering me. Sincerely Yours Emma L. Daniel Davis. o —— Card of Thanks We the children of Mrs. Nancy H.
