Thursday afternoon, compliment to Miss Angie Firks. wll ose marriage to Mr. Byford Macy win be an occurrence of July 20. Three tables were arranged for Bridge, with Mrs. Herman Myers and Mrs Bryce ThomaS winning prizes for high score, which they in turn presented to the honor guest. At the close of the games, the hostess, assisted by Louise Haubold. served a most delicious two-course luncheon. Appointments of the luncheon and home decorations were carried out in yellow and white. During the course of the luncheon. Miss Macy presented Miss Firks with a huge yellow crepe paper bow. with the request that she pin it on her dress. Little Miss Etola Jane Eady, dressed in a dainty little lace costume, then entered the room, drawing a yellow and white decorated wagon full of gifts, which she presented to Miss Firks. Upon being opened. these were found to contain a lovely assortment of kitchen utensils. The guest list for the afternoon comprised: Misses Angle Firks, Helen Dugan. Veronica Anker, Mary Suttles, Louise Haubold, Mary Burk, Dorothy Durkin. Mildred Liddy, and Mesdames Herman Myers, James R. Blair. Bryce Thomas. Carrie Haubold and Harry Knapp. » MISS VIOLET BURDG ENTERTAINED IN PORTLAND Miss Violet Burdg. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Burdg, of Mercer avettue is visiting her aunt, Mrs. A. A. Kist, of Portland. The Kisti and their young guest were dinner guests Thursday evening of Mrs. Fred E. Meeker and son, Gordon, at their home in Poitland. They spent Friday in Indianapolis. On Wednesday night, Mr. and Mrs. Kist entertained with a circus party, their guests attending the John Robinson circus, which showed at Portland. In the party were Mr. and Mrs Charles A. Burdg, Mrs. William J Burdg and daughter Violet of Decatur; Mrs. Fred E. Meeker and son, Gordon. Mrs. Tod Whipple and daughter; Montez ahd Mis. Paul C. Jaqun and daughter, Catherine, of Portland. SPENDING WEEK AT LAKE WAWASEE “Miss Jane Detamore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hany Detamore, of this city is spending a few days at Lake Waw-isee, a guest at the summer home of her uncle and aunt. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Tortence of Marion. She>accompanied Mrs. Torrence and farflily to Marion. Wednesday evening, when they returned from spending the day here, and Thursday morning, they left for the lake". —Portland Sun. The betamore and Torrence families are well known in this city, both Mrs. Betamore and Mrs. Torrence being daughters of Mrs. Jeff Bryson, a former Decatur resident. BENEFIT CARD PARTY AT FULLENKAMP HOME A benefit card party was held Thurs day evening by the C. L. of C„ at the ' home of Miss Rose Fullenkamp, cn ' west Adams street. Twenty-five tables ' were arranged for Biidge, Rhum and elm Hundred. The home was attractively decorated for the occasion in garden flowers. At Bridge, Mrs. Vin>ent Bormann and Mrs. W. Keller were awarded the prizes; Miss Ethel Ervin and .Mrs. Mike Sorg won first and secund prizes, respectively in Five Bun-di-ed. while at Rhum. Miss Cecelia Nesswald and Mrs. Mathias Miller held high scoresfl At the close of the games m committee for the evening served ight refreshments. A: five o'clock, u banquet was served by the enteitalnlng chapter in Hie dining loom of the K. of P. Home. During the evening session, the Huntington lodge initiated a large class of candidates, after which the children of the Mcose put on a Moose piogram. which was greatly enjoyed. The Huntington lodge won the attendance prize, and one of the candidates of the evening won the prize walk, a feature of entertainment. Lodges from Fort Wayne. Auburn. Angola, Decatur and Columbia city, were represented at the meeting. The next district meeting will be held at Angola sometime during the month of September. MEETING OF BAPTIST W. M. S. The Woman's Missionary Societyof the Baptist church was entertained at a regular business meeting, Thursday afternoon, at the home of Mrs. Morris Butcher, on Thirteenth street. Fourteen members were present. During a brief business' session, the regular collection of dues was held. A social hour followed, light refreshments being served by the hostess. The next meeting of the society will be a social program, to be held next Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. William Winnea. Mrs. C. E. Peterson will have charge of the program. MEETING OF PRESBYTERIAN W. M. S. Fifteen members were present. Thursday afternoon, at the regular meeting of the Presbyterian Missionary society which was held in the church parlors. Mrs. Ferntheil had charge of the devotionals, after which Mrs. S. D. Beavers conducted the lesson study. The collection for the afternoon was very good. At the close of the meeting, Mrs. J. C. Cole. Miss Madge Hite and Mrs. Pau) Saucer, as hostesses, served dainty refreshments. Jerry Toirence and daughter Pauline and son Jerry, of Marion; Mrs. Don Vancil and daughter Jane, of Cincinnati; Mrs. Hany Detamore and daughter Jane, of Portland and the Hostess, Mrs. Jeff Bryson.” PROGRESSIVE WORKERS ENJOY SOCIAL MEETING The Progressive Workers class of .the United Brethren Sunday school, held its regular monthly meeting. Thursday evening, beginning at eight o’clock, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Davis, North Ninth street. The meeting opened with prayer by Mrs. William Arnold, after which Mrs. Vernon Arnold gave an interesting talk on the subject, “The Disbelief in Colleges." Two new members were initiated into the class, namely. Mr. and Mrs. Russel Debolt. Games were played and refreshments served by the hostess. A general good time was enjoyed and at the close of the meeting, the birtjiday of Clarence Merriman was celebrated. Three dollars of the sum was derived from a candy sale at the door of the the- ! ater. LARGE ATTENDANCE AT EVANGELICAL LADIES AID Thirty-six members were present, Thursday afternoon, at the regular mr.nthly meeting of the Ladies Aid Society of the Evangelical church. Mrs. Robert Gaiard was chairman of the entertaining section for the afternoon, and turned in a collection of (46-13 for hei section. MEETING OF LOYAL WORKERS CLASS The Loyal Workers class of the Evangelical Sunday school was entertained, Thursday evening, at the home of Mrs. Dick f|oop, on South First street., Eighteen members were present. Plans were made for the annual picnic of the class which will be held the last week in July, the place and definite date to be announced later Refieshments of ice cream and cake were served by Mrs. Roop at the close of yie meeting.
