The Bank of Linn Grove has been robbed twice within a little more than a year. Only last Saturday, Charles Makley, 39, of St. Marys. Ohio, was sentenced in the Adams circuit court at Decatur, to serve from 10 to 21 years in the state pris on for robbing the local bank. Night Watchman Slain Terre Haute, Ind., June — Sylvester Uentz, town marshal of Chrisman, 111., died today at the Lakeview hospital at Danville, 111., from wounds received early this morning when he fought a revolver duel with three bandits whom he surprised trying to break into Chrisman’s store. Lientz, seriously wounded one of the trio. The wounded man was arrested when he was brought to the Union hospital in Terre Haute for treatment. It was necessary to arm putate the man’s leg. John Birostko, 28, and John Clarkson, 23, both of Universal, Ind., have been arrested and have confessed their parts in the attempted robbery and shooting. o Band Concert Will Start At 8 o’clock Through a typographical error, it was stated in the Daily Democrat last night that the band concert to be given on Liberty Way by the Junior band Thursday night, would start at 9 o’clock. MORE LUTHERAN SCHOOLS OPENED (CONTtNUEO ON PAGE TWO) additions to the membership of the missions and the financial support. The establishment of new missions in Dayton. Ohio. Louisville. Kentucky, liexington. Kentucky, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Frankfort. Indiana. South Bend, Indiana, Evansville, Indiana, was cited as evidence of the forward movement of the past year. Memorial services for deceased pastors were conducted on Tuesday by the Rev. Philip Wambsganss, Fort Wayne, necrologist. Group meetings have been scheduled for the pastors and for the lay delegates, attending the convention under the chairmanship of the Rev. E. H. Eggers, Seymour. Ind., and Mr. Albert H. Ahibrand, financial secretary, respectively. A missionary pageant will be presented at St. Paul’s Hall on Tuesday evening, under the direction of Mrs. Frederick Zucker, in the missionary service of the church in India, now on furlough. Convention Opened Sunday The fifty-fifth convention of the Missouri Synod Lutheran churches located in Indiana. Ohio, Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia opened Sunday afternoon in Fort Wayne. Indiana. for a six-day meet with 625 official representatives of the member churches, several hundred visitors from various points of the district and more than a thousand members of the church in Fort Wayne present. The opening services were held in the historic St. Paul’s church, one of the oldest and the largest Lutheran church in Indiana. The venerable Doctor Jacob W. Miller, of Fort Wayne, and one of the four vice-presi-dents of the church, preaclred Mie sermon. The speaker stressed the thought that the church is only then a strong influence for good as she faithfully adheres to the eternal ■ truths as they are recorded in the Bible.
