ORGANIZATION IS FORMED TO WORK FOR STATE PARK (CONTINVKD H<OW PAUB ONK) making an artificial basin several miles in circumference. After the inspection trip, the men met al the ofice nf Mr. Cross and discussed plans and projects for carrying out the idea of creating a state park. Talks were made by Mr. Biederwolf, Mr. Saunders, Mr. Gottschalk, Mr. Lutz, Mr. tjuinn and others. Mr. Biederwolf was very enthusiastic over the proposed park and assured the meeting the support of the Izaak Walton League. The men present expressed the opinion that an effort should lie directed by the citizens cf this northeast territory, the state conservation department and the Izaak Walton league to secure the enactment of the proper legislation for the state of Indiana to take over the .proposition. With this idea in view, a permanent erganization with W. D. Cross, Jr.. as president, was formed. o MODIFICATION PLANK NOT AIM OF GOV. SMITH (CONTINUED FKOM PAGE ONE) forcing laws while they remain on the statute books. The governor's statement met with two chief reactions here, namely: 1— Drys claimed it put him more firmly on record as a ‘'wet,” and as such they oppose him. 2 — Smith's friends said the pari of frankness demanded that he make his position clear before the convention, thus not taking the nomination under false pretenses. The diys are holding regular prayer sessions in their headquarters around the corner from the Rice Hotel, chief gathering place of the Democratic clans. Their noon day meetings are opened with prayer. Most of the drys are women. The Senator Reed forces have been trying to win their support, but thus far the effort seems to have failed. Although Mrs. Jessie Nicholson of Chevy Chase, Md., a suburb of the national capital, was named by dry women for Reed, Mrs. Nicholson em phatically denied she had any intention of supporting him. May label Reed as a wet. Hoosiers Oppose Wet Plank Indianapolis, Ind., June 22. —(INS) — Opposition to adoption of a “wet platform plank by the Democratic national convention was noticeable among the members of the Indiana delegation as they prepared to entrain for Houston, Tex., this afternoon. Although the Hoosier delegation, which was scheduled to leave on the "Evans Woollen Special” at 5:45 p., m., is not antagonistic to Governor Al Smith, there was belief that an anti-prohibition stand by the national convention would menace what leaders said was the probability of election of a Democratic stale ticket this fall. o - — SWIMMING POOL TO OPEN TUESDAY (CONTINUED FROM PAGE ONE) girls.
