SOCIETY 8-Pa BILLY HERBER HAS birthday On the ccasston of his fifth birthday anniversary, Master Billy Herber entertained the sons of the Delta Theta Tau Alumni members, Tuesday after noon, at his home on North Third street. Games were played during the afternoon hours, and toward evening, the youngsters were invited to the dining room where they were seated at a large table, centered with a large white birthday cake, bearing five lighted candles. Each child received a small American flag for a favor. Those enjoying Hilly's party were: Billy Roop Dicky Lose, John Bernard Terveer. Bobby Briede, Paul Brunton, Jimmy Brennan, Bobby Kohne, Bobby Lan rent and Billy Herber. PSI IOTA XI PLEDGE PARTY Mrs. Jesse Rice and Mrs. Clifford Saylors were hostesses to lhe members of the Psi lota Xi Sorority, Tuesday evening at the Saylors home on North Fourth street. Pledge services were held for Misses Virginia Hite and Helen Schroll and for Mrs. C. C. Rayl. Following the pledging of the three new members, Bridge was played aad prizes for high score awarded to Mrs. Leo Kirsch and Miss Irene Zwick. Mrs. Sim Burk received the consolation. Lovely favors were also presented to the three new pledges. The hostesses served a dainty luncheon in patriotic appointments. The next meeting of the sorority will be held in two weeks witli Miss Neva Brandyberry. Auction Bridge Club meeting, which was to have been held tonight with Mrs. Frank Lose, has been postponed until Tuesday evening. Members are requested to,note the change in date. LEEANNA VANCE HAS PART IN GOUCHER PROGRAM Miss Lee Anna Vance, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Vance will participate in the graduation exercises to be held at Goucher College this week. Miss Vance, wfto is a Sophomore at Goucher, will be a member pf the Sophomore-Junior Daisy Chair., and has also been sleeted as one of ten girls who. will be seated in the balcony druing the festivities, and as they sing, drop rose petals on the activities below. Next week, Miss Vance will attend the graduation exercises at John Hopkin University, returning to her home about June 14. ENTERTAINS . DINNER GUESTS Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Rice entertained at dinner. An abundance of choice spring blossoms decorated the home and the stairway was entwined with greenery. Her flowers were a shower bouquet of Columbia roses, heliotrope, snapdragons and baby breath. "Following the ceremony a two course luncheon, of unusually pleasing appointments, was served. The luncheon tables were prettily decorated with pink roses and orchid sweetpeas and the place cards and other accessories were in the bridal colors. A large wedding cake formed the centerpiece for the bride’s table. Ihe bride, who is a charming young lady, was graduated from the Frankfort high school in 1925, and for the past two years has been a bookkeeper for Fear-Campbell Company. She is a member of the Delta Gamma Delta Sorority*. “Mr. Larson, who is a native of Gothenherg, Sweden, is a member of the Dick Burdg-Larson Corp., witc headquarters at ’ Decatur, Indiana. The company manufacturers refrigerating plants. He is a popular young man with a wide acquaintance of friends. HELEN EVERETT TO BE MARRIED Mr. George Everett and daughter Miss Geraldine will go to Indianapolis tomorrow, where they will attend the wedding tomorrow evening, of their daughter and sister. ELEANOR ROOP CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY Eleanor Roop was delightfully surprised at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon. when a group of her playmates gathered to assist her in celebrating her ninth birthday anniversary. The party was held at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Roop, one and one-half mile west of Decatur. Games were played during the afternoon and refreshments of ice-cream and cake served. BERNE GIRL MARRIED ON DECORATION DAY Miss Laura Ann Lehman, youngest daughter of Mrs. Judith Lehman, of Beine. and Irvin Canen, young minister of Elkhart, were united in marriage on Decoration Day Wednesday. The bride was al tended by Miss Arveda Wullhuan aud the groom was attended by Mr. Floyd Bowman, of West Unity, Ohio. A sumptuous wedding diuuer followed the ceremony. Rev. and Mrs. Canen formed their acquaintance while they were students at the Fort Wayne Bible Training School. Rev. Canen was giadualed from I hat school in 1927. Following his graduation, lie occupied a pulpit in Montana for several months and is now pastor of the Antioch church southwest of this city. Aller June first, Rev. and Mrs. Canen will be at home in the church parsonage. Smith of Denver, superintendent of the San Carlos mine, was murdered from ambush while motoring between the mine and Pachuca, a dispatch to the newspaper Universal said today. The assassin, the dispatch said, broke Smith's right wrist with his first bullet, and then, as the automobile halted, sent two shots into the American’s body. oDecatur Finn Gets Inquiry From Italy The Dick Burdg-Larson company, of this city, manufacturers of ice machines, today leceived an inquiry on a machine from Italy. Mr. Burdg stated that he was completing plans and specifications this afternoon to send to the Italian film. The local manufaetui ing plant has received orders for the Burdg-Larson machine in almost every state in this country and several in Canada. Norway Sends Expedition To Search For Nobile Oslo, Norway, May 31—(U.R)—Norway today started its greatest efforts to learn the fate of Genera Umberto Nobile and his polar dirigible Italia. The official government lelief expedition started for Bergen where it will board the coalshlp Inlgerflre From Bergen the ship will proceed to Kings Bay and using that as a base, search through the great Arctic regions for the dirigible, now many hours unreported. Meanwhile Captain Riiser Larsen was ordered by the cabinet to fly to Tromsoe and to continue to Kings Bay by boat. At Spitzenbergen he will await arrival of two seaplanes.
