If it isn’t the furnace which needs attention, its the lawn. Just seems like they don't want the men to ever really enjoy life. Many cities in this section of the state are adopting daylight saving time and it looks as though we would have to do it or be out of style, whether we like it or not. - - Americans left a hundred million , dollars in Canada last year and are . starting off this season with a rush ; that indicates they will break that record easily. Its time to send in the list of old ~ timers, people who formerly lived ■ here and whom you desire invited to the Old Home Week to be held here , the week of September 10th. Do it ; right away. , Any way Senator Watson has the i Hooverites saying "please mister." | After calling him about every thing bitt a statesman, they now realize that before Indiana can vote for the secretary of commerce, the foxy Jim, ,has to say so. Old Home Week can be made a •great event if every one will just help a little. Send in a coupon with jnames of those you wish invited, then write them a personal letter. Its go- 1 ing to be a fine time for everybody and you will say so after its over. ' Why not a “City Beautiful’” Other •towns of this size are offering prizes, for the best kept lawns and most at•tractive landscaping of gardens. In years i>ast wp have improved Decatui by that method and its a fine thing to do. The Hoover crowd has spent about • $250,000 so far in the campaign to I secure the nomination for president -and his backers say that is a very small amount. Perhaps so, but large enough that it bars most of the average citizens of the country from ‘ getting into the game. The lad who discovered the German j and Irish fliers when they lauded in the Wrong field'at Chicago yesterday arfd got to shake hands with them ahead of any other Chicagoan will of ’course be the hero of his gang when the newspapers get through photographing him. George Dearth over in Dele ware; county get a good trimming in his' race for rcuoinination as judge.! Dearth is the man who caused George! Dale so much trouble and who took ; the position that the “truth is no de- i tense.” Dale carried his home county 1 in the race tor t.ie governorship anti came out of the battle with much to his credit. Tito democratic ticket in Adame ■ county is composed of excellent citi-j zens who won their nomination in a I •fair contest. The ticket deserves the I support of every democrat. Os course’ there are those who will try to create j discord which is just what the oppo-j sit ion desires. Buckle on the harness I • and laugh at those who would enjoy i seeing a quarrel among the Adams • county democrats. ’ The gypsy season has opened. Os-
Q J —I _________ ficers should be on the lookout for them and order them to travel right on through. They are a lot of graftera. no good to aay community. The other day going through Wells county. '• i a bunch of them worked several of ’ their games to the lose of those with whom they came in contact. Move . 'em along officers and tell them to step on the gas. ! Mother's Day tomorrow, than which • there is no more important date of ' the year. Go to see her if you can; write her if you can't go; see that she gets a word from you, with a box of i candy or a bunch of flowers if you cau afford It; but remember she will care more for a hearty hello, a kiss anil a hug than for any thing else. She is your best friend, the one who would gladly make any sacrifice if it would help you. Don't go back on 1 mother for remember she will never forsake you. Schortemeier was given a large plurality in the republican race for governor and it is quite probable lie will prove a formidable contender for ' the nomination in convention. As scretary of state he has a powerful political machine and he has not hesitated to use it. Though his employes are paid by the state and are I expected to serve the people, be hast seen fit to convert them to his own ■ political purposes. He probably has I the delegates lined up so that he can win in the coming battle. More smooth politics which we would think the people of Indiana had long ago I had enough of. Hershman and Holt, who finished I sixth and seventh in the democratic rave for the gubernatorial nomination Tuesday have suggested that the nomination of Frank C. Dailey be made by acclamation Earl Crawford made the same suggestion during th<* campaign and without doubt sufficient support will thus be givers to assure iDaileys nomination. There should be a unity of .democratic sentiment I along this line for only with the i party intact can we hope to win in the November election. Let there he . r ao factions, no fighting, no destructive ! tactics. Its too Important this year that a clean and capable administration be chosen. We have suffered in Indiana for several years. Its time to change and Frank Dailey is the man to lead the fight to clean up. ♦ ¥¥¥¥¥¥♦¥¥¥¥» * THE GREAT WAR * * 10 YEARS AGO * * ¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥♦ , German attack near Amiens fails and enemy is hprled from Maily-Rae-neval by bt illiant counter attack.
