There may not have been as much interest in the primaries as there should have been but there was certainly as much as usual in the results, judging from the telephone calls last evening. Now what do you think of daylight savings time? If you want it or don't want it we will be glad to have you express yourself through the columns of the People's Voice in the Daily Democrat. Many folks sat at home last evening and received returns of the election, a decided improvement over the old-fashioned methods ami yet it seemed to take but few from the crowds which gathered at the newspaper offices. About, the only way it seems to get the women to vote is to offer a resolution to repeal the suffrage amendment. Women will fight to vote but many of them don't seem to care whether they do so or not. Evidently they just want the privilege in case they need it. Governor Albert C. Ritchie of Maryland is honest about his candidacy for the presidency. He says that while he would be glad to have such an honor he does not expect it to come his wav and will do nothing to obtain it. Tiie Washington records disclose 1 that there are only 79.300 Civil war pensioners in this country and that 1.283 died during the month of March. That the veterans are missing rapidly is shown by the fact that thirty years :<go there were 715,822 Civil war pensioners in the .United States. «■■■■————vHea We heard a dozen republicans de- < lare last evening they intend to vote for Frank Dailey for governor next November. Now if they don't change their minds and their is a similar proportion of changes over the slate, as are indicated here, there will be a thorough cleaning of the state house. More garages were built in this country last year than there were new dwellings erected which is not so queer. Most of us have a house and most of us have automobiles so its natural to expect that the owner of a car will see that it lias a decent place to stand, protected from the weather. A Peru girl donned a suit of men's clothing and went with her sweetheart to rob a grocery store. The man escaped but she was captured-by police. bad for both of them and a sorry start for the lover and sweetheart. The girl said she did it for a thrill. She got it when she heard % bullets whistling about her ears. M ith >he primaries over we are off for a campaign that should interest every body in thfe country and will. Saturday, districts the week following, then the state organization, the conventions, a short vacation and the fall campaign. Its going to he a real campaign and don’t you forget it. If you didn't vote, you should not squeal about results. If we arc to have a better Indiana and a better nation, the good people, many of whom do not go to the polls, must I take enough interest to vote. The ' vote in this county was fairly good but it could have been better. We hope every eligible voter ’ decides right now to take a part in the election next November. The National Congress of Parents and Teachers has discarded any idea of doing away with the road house, which is an important part of traveling convenience in this motor age but they have inaugurated a campaign to regulate them and in every legislature in the land next year will be found a bill for a. law to license and control these place*. Properly conducted the road house is a fine thing but loosely i operated they are about the worst dives in the country. There is little if any question about the need of severe regulation. If every citizen within a radius of fifty miles of Angola had formed themselves into a vigilant committee and quickly brought to justice the men who went to the home of E. S. Croxton, presMeut of the First National bank of Angola. Tuesday morning. bound Mrs. Croxtou in bed and took the president to the bank where he was held a prisoner until be could open the vault, they would have done a valiant service. Its time to awaken to the fact that something unusual must be done to break up this crime wave. ■What this country needs now more than anything else in the field of taxation is a simplification of the tax laws, common-sense thinking, coupled with efficient and intelligent administration. Involved laws and rules goveniing taxation Save caused much dissatisfaction. The individual should have some idea of how much tax he will have to pay. without having to employ an attorney to aid him in the making of calculations. Our courts today are crowded with tax questions and interpretations of tax laws. This creates an element of uncertainty winch la very disconcerting, both to public official., and to taxpayers. Our tax laws should be simple ami under staiidable, so that, all of the people know what they are paying all of the time, says the California Taxpayers Association.
