zer may be applied. A 50-SO mixture of a good complete fertilizer aud sulphate of ammonia can be scattered over the turf at a rate not exceeding one pound per hundred square feet. The latter method would be the most suitable in a great many ot cases, pai ticularly at this time of the year because it will help to push the grass along dutlng these warm spring days. "Any of the above methods can be recommended and each Individual should choose the one that is most satisfactory to his own needs. BRITISH MOVIES HAVE JOBS FOR SLENDER STARS Ry J. C. OESTREICrtER International News Service Staff , Correspondent London, April 5 — The restricted weight bugaboo, so long familiar to Hollywood actresses, has made its appearance in the British motion picture studios. New contracts drawn up by one of the largest producing companies in England -provide that the actresses who sign as parties to the agreement must forfeit their jobs if they permit their avoirdupois to exceed the limit imposed -by her employers. Consequently, for the first time, English movie actresses are paying strict attention to their diets, and a regular consultation with tho weighing machine has become part of the daily routine. Many Regulations The new contracts impose a number of other regulations upon the lives of British movie stars. One of them, made out for a prominent actress here, reads iu part as follows: “She shall not marry without first obtaining the company's consent. "She shall proceed to any town or country to which she is ordered, and reasonable expenses will be paid; she shall wear any costume prescribed ; and she shall do such things and acts as are required. “She shall at all times do all that is necessary for the preservation of

features and appearance aud. shall adopt any measures the company may think fit to preserve her in this way. Keep Weight Down “She will be liable to dismissal if she allows her weight to exceed a prescribed number of pounds or if she becomes involved in any incident likely to injure her good name i or her reputation as a screen actress’’ Furthermore, the actress pledges I herself to punctuality in all official ! engagements, and promises not to divulge any trade secrets or IntormaI tion regarding the business. Publication of the actress’ contract - here has attracted wld|d attention, I for it is the first time that weight - restrictions have ever been Imposed in this country, despite the fact that such a condition is common in Hollywood. 1 The weight limit to which she is restricted was not divulged.
