FRANKFORT FIVE PICKED BT TOLL I. N. S. Sport Writer ‘Dopes’ Finals Os State High School Tourney Indianapolis, March 13. —(INS) —The tupply of heart xtimuluuts in drug steres and doctor’s kits will remain undisturbed for- some time to come following the hair raising, nerve shaking finishes in the regional basketball games of the Indiana High School Athletic Association. Now remins only the finals at Indianapolis. Only the finals—that’s all. Sixteen teams will journey down to the new Butler Field House at Indianapolis and there stage what will probaldy be the most bitterly fought of the seventeen annual tournaments. for never before have the teams been so evenly matched or so powerful. The regionals furnished few surprises Generally the favorites came through. Anderson took it easy in defeating Broad Hippie although the 11 ppleites played a lietter game than any Indianapolis team has shown in a long time. Kendallville is a new comer ami furnished t n upset. Martinsville had a narrow escape at the hands of Brazil. Had Brazil been able to score one more field goal--what an upset that would have been. Columbus’ win over Franklin was expected. After Bluffton dropped by the wayside. Central, of Fort Wayne had it all its own way. Central, of Evansville and Oentiial. of Muncie had litt’e trouble in their respective games and completed the triumvirate of Centrals meeting in the finals. Frankfort and Washington of East Ch’cago had little opposition. Clinton came to the front to drop Greencastle in what would have been a surprising "upset” had not mumps j ■ eviously ruled out a part of the Greencastle team. Logansport toyed with Peru. Little Delphi dulled Sharpsville and enters the tourney as the final "dark horse." In this column we I’ocenGy r'"edieted that Rochester would come through. We were "kidded” and “razzed” but Rochester is in the finpis and while they will probably fall before Martinsville iyet> khey will cause plenty of trouble in the .field house where there is plenty of room for long shots. Washington settled its ancient enemy Vincennes once more and these "Hatchets" will be in there at the finish. Watch them—never mind—you will before the finals are over. Rushville also downed a natural rival in stopping Connersville. Bedford and Muncie had no trouble and were counted in the finals a week or more ago. From the writer's angle nothing remains in Hoosier basketball this season except the job of reporting the final games. Therefore we will herein make the farewell prognostication. We have fared pretty well in guessing winners lately and missed the few "upsets" that only make the game interesting. Wo will miss a few perhaps in this forecast but as things look now this is the way the final tourney will work out: Clinton to beat Central of Fort Wayne. Bedford to beat Kendallville Anderson to beat Delphi Muncie to beat Evansville Central Martinsville to b - Rochester Washington to boat Columbus Frankfort to beat Washington, of East Chicago Logansport to beat Rushville. Bedford to beat Clinton Anderson to l>eat Muncie Washington to beat Martinsville Frankfort to l>eat Logansport Anderson to beat Bedford Franlqfort to beat Washington (A big MAYBE goes in here) Frankfort to heat Anderson. Now we’ve gone and done it. We’ve picked Frankfort. Anywny that won't make a “case" against us. It is a bad pun but its the best we can do after this wild regional. 0 Runners Pass Through Desolate Country Today Oatman, ATiz. RISKO WINS IN . COLORLESS BOUT Gets Decision Over Sharkey, But Fails To Show Championship ('lass * By Frank Getty ; (IT. p. Sports Editor) i Madison Square Garden. New York. • Match 13 • (U.R)—The heavyweight ell* ‘ mination tournament conducted by Tex Rickard sot the purpose of finding a logical challenger for the <-ham- ■ pionship of the world had resulted today in the elimination of all contestants. i Jchnny Risko. of Cleveland. Chubby ex-baker’s boy and stumbling block of the unlimited division, outpointed Jack Sharkey of Boston in Madison Square Gat den last night The manner ' of his victory was such that everyone 1 toncetned is at a loss to name an opponent for Gene Tunney in June. Risko, boring in throughout the 15round fight, won the judges decision In a bout which might have been awarded to either man or called a draw without injustice. But even if Sharkey had wen the nod of the officials, the sitauation woul dhave remained the same. Risko, victor over Shat key and Tom Heeney, who defeated Jack Delaney ten days ago, now may be matched to decide upon an oponent for the heavyweight champion. But the contestants in last night's fight made fully as bad a showing, as far as their championship possibilities tan be rated, as did Heeney and Delaney in the preceding elimination bout. There were no knockdowns in last night’s affair, nor was either Sharkey or Risko in distress at any time. The Cleveland heavyweight won the verdict by his aggressiveness, despite Sharkey's cleaner hitting and occasional heavier punches. Risko met Tunney two years ago and gave him a faitly tough time in 12 rounds. A shove sent Tunney halfway through the ropes, but it was not a clean knockdown, and Gene got up to give Risko a bad beating. o Kansas City. Mo—Two upsets featured the opening round of the National A. A. IT. basketball tournament. The Ke-Nash-A team. Kenosha, Wis. rated as a strong contender for the championship, was defeated 27 to 24 by the Liberal Lions of Liberal, Kan., and Good Year Tires, Akron, were defeated 31 to 30, by the Rushville, Ind., iltks.

The leferees wete suitable ami the Central players did not try to "kill off" any Tiger performers ns forecasted by some of the brethren. Rip Offs, Bluffton News. Sot r Fruit From The Vineyard "We think the Tigers should not feel the defeat too keenly, for they have had a remarkably succesful year on the maple. We honestly think It was mote of an hour to win the sectional at Bluffton than it was the regional at Fort Wayne. What we mean is that Wells county contributed "hotter" quintets to the sectional than those at the regional speaking generally. Os course, it takes regional winnings to get a trip to the state and that is the thing most desired, but it is also something when a team wins in a sectional tournament such as was held at Bluffton. Is there any other county in the state that had eight teams as fast and capable as those in Wells county? We don't know where” Rip Offs, again. The Last Word “We always keep the column running in full blast until all Wells county teams have finished their season. This has happened and we’ie signing off unti next fail, it has been a pleasure to be in the thick of basketball all yeai and we have greatly appreciated the help we have received on all sides.
