COMMODORES ARE TOURNEY BOUND Catholic High School (Jagers Leave For State Catholic Tournament The Decatur Catholic high school j basketball team left this morning fori Indianapolis, where it wil take part in the first annual state Catholic school I tournament, to he held in the new gymnasium at Cathedial high school, Friday and Siturday. Coach Lau.ent.l ten players anil a few fans made-the. trip to the capital city in a large hits. Father Joseph Hession anl a few fans went in Father Hessian's automobile. • The Commodores p;abably will hive thei. headquarters at the English hotel during the tournament. The players taken to the tourney were Captain J. Mylott. F. Mylott, Wemhoft, Gass. Miller. Sorg, Gage, liar: is. Coffee and Kchne. The Commodores are scheduled to play Reitz Memorial high school of Evansville at 7:30 o’clock F.iday evening, in the fourth game of the tourney. The tit st game in wiiich Hammond and Washington will be .the opposing teams, will start at 2 o'clock Friday afternocn. Thirteen teams are ' entered in the tournament. Although several strong teams are entered in the meet, the Commodores are considered one of the leading contenders for the state title. The winner of the tournament will represent Indiana in the national Cathlloc school tournament, to be hel dat Chicago later in the month. Several Decatur fans will attend the tournament, many of them having purchased season tickets already. — c Desert Takes Toll Os Entrants In ‘Bunion Derby’ Earstow, Calf., Mar. B.—(UJO—Another day of open desert country with a high temperature and dry wind faced runners in the trans-continen-tal "Bunion Derby” today. The days lap is the 30-mile stretch between here and Ludlow. The desert took its tool of the entrants yesterday and the hospital | < amp following the main caravan received a heavy enrollment. Sun and sand made no exceptions, and favorites fell out with the "dark horse" entrants. One of the greatest surprises was the dropping out of Nicholas Quontawahu, Hop! Indian who led the troupe Tuesday. A heel blister which physicians feared might result in blood poisoning was the cause of Quomawahu's tin- , doing. Eddie Gardner. Seattle negro won i Wednesday’s lap by covering the 37 miles of sagebrush and cactus country in 5:15:30. o Bluffton Nine To Play Both Decatur Schools B-uffton, March 8. — (U.R) — Ten games have been scheduled for the Bluffton high school baseball team this spring.
